For Italian F-16 I wouldn't be surprised if it missed the fighter to missile up-link. Initially Tornado F3 ADV missed this function too with AIM-120B.

But F15 was generally regarded as top of the line BVR fighter even back in the day of FOx 1, with the F-14 coming in spot # 2 or 1 Depending on who you ask (a USAF or USN pilot)

I didn't say the contrary, but a Mirage 2000C RDI can hold its own against F-15 fitted with Fox 1 only.

 

But my point is that many people are disappointed because Mirage 2000C can't carry Fox 3, but it's a matter of time period.

 

I was in Cambrai for Tiger Meet 1994, the participants were F-104 ASA, Fiat G91, F-5, Mirage F1, Jaguar, Super Etendard, F-16A, Tornado IDS/ ECR...

Not in Tiger Meet, but in these years some countries were still using English Electric Lightning, F-4 Phantom or Tornado F3 (with Sky Flash) for air defense.

In the Est, they were still flying MiG 21/ 23/ 29.

 

So until mid to late 90' the Mirage 2000C RDI, with doppler radar and integrated ECM system was nothing to laugh about in AA.

 

As Fox 3 began to see wider use, the Mirage 2000-5F was introduced, with Mica Fox 3 missiles and a totally new weapon system. But this is another story...

4 pylon was not unusual back then, and as an interceptor 4 missile is plenty.

I do not agree with you, 10 missiles won't help you in a 1vs1 situation, 2 Fox1 and 2 Fox2 are enough to take out any threat in DCS.

 

I have never lost an engagement because I was only carrying 4 missiles, for multiple fights it's another story.

 

When I fly online with a buddy we often take down between 2 and 4 aircrafts, them being SU-27, F-15 or M-2000C. In fact I find that the most dangerous bird online is the 2000.

This is a misconceptions I see all the time in online servers. That an aircraft should carry max load every time. Guys will come in load aircraft "X" to the gills with weapons. Then they will barely make it off the ground, then wobble all the way to the target at full burner/power and then try to go guns just to crash or brake the wings...why not just take off with enough weapons and fuel to accomplish the assign task without over weighing the aircraft and adding so much drag it can barely fly? I do not think combat aircraft fly carrying maximum loads every time. F-14 normal cap load was what? Two AIM-7 and Two Aim-9 and two external tanks. Do we really think A-10 carried 16,000lbs or the F-111 carried 48 mk-82 every time?

 

To each his own, if you have fun that way, more power to you. There is no wrong or right way. But we all have different views on that I guess.

That is AG ordinance, I was talking about self defense loadout for fighters. What difference does it make if the a10 carries more or less bombs?? But the self defense missiles are key to survival and station time.

Self defense on 2000C :

2x Magic II

2x 125 gun shells

This is more than the current dual seater dedicated strikers (2000N, 2000D) which don't have guns.

 

In current situations, this "max" is not always carried. Examples:

- Libya, max at start (A/A "high" risk) + dedicated escort

- Sahel, 1x Magic II at first, then none.

- Iraq/Syria, 1x Magic II (2000) or 1x MICA IR (Rafale)

 

530D isn't a self-defense weapon. It's a fighter/interceptor weapon.
