The F-16 arose from the competition between the YF-16 and YF-17. The loser became the F-18. ;)

For me, it's not a question of which aircraft is the best. I think DCS is the best flight sim IMO and I'd like to see the option of flying both in NTTR, SoH, Caucasus etc etc :D

It can't, there is a weight limit due the wing folding mechanism.

Odd, I heard it from a Super Hornet pilot.

Oh and also, the F-16 can carry the AN/ASQ-213 pod while the F/A-18 doesn't, which makes it slightly better at SEAD.

Exactly! Imagine how good that will look in VR

The Hornet can do that as well.

The Super Hornets Wingtip LAU is capable of utilizing AIM-120, but the weight of the AIM-120 exceeds the limit of the Wing Folding mechanism, so for operational purposes they are restricted from use on the Wingtips.

Even Then, the MAX Loadout of AIM-120's on a F-18 Exceeds the maximum capable AIM-120 Load by the F-16.

Lost the Airforce contract, Yes

Redeveloped for navy carriers landings, the navy wanted twin engine redundancy.

Plus all the other contracts, including Australia:)

Oh don't get me wrong...The LWF Program is a perfect example of how we used to do things right. One development program yielded TWO outstanding aircraft. Why? Because the designers were trying to WIN a contract. Not just design what they wanted to sell...The F-15, F-16, A-10 and F-18 are the last of that bred we have.

But aside from the Fighting Falcon (not Viper) being iconic with lots of operators worldwide blah blah blah, what does it do that the Hornet doesn't?

In all seriousness no; in my head, many things. :D :smartass:

- Fly an entire missions on one engine

- Fly supersonic on one engine

- In-flight refuel from a boom.

- Land in a cross wind without correcting with rudder.

- Flaring on landing

- Find more overseas costumers

- Carry AN/AAQ-13/14, AN/ASQ-213A, AN/ALQ-184 etc.

- Many more aerial victories

- First US AIM-120 kill

- 9G turns

- Fly into thunderstorms

- Automatic terrain following

- Better accelerations

- Longer range

- Assigned to USAF Demonstrations team

- Assigned to USAF Aggressor Squadrons

- Unobstructed Forward view, No canopy bow in the way.

- Fly entire mission by just moving your wrist

- Using arm rest while flying

- Used by Both the USAF and USN.

- Carry AIM-120 on the wing tips

https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2679813&postcount=33

- Use drag chute on landing

- Seat in a recline position

- Still have electrical power and hydraulic power in the air with no engine running (for around 10 minutes)

- Carry liquid rocket fuel.

- Raise main landing gear forward

- Raise Nose landing gear backwards

- Maintain a 13 degree nose high attitude down the runway after landing, as long it is aerodynamically possible.

- Fly with only one vertical tail

- Fly operationally with 6 different engines.

:P

mvsgas, how much ammo does the F-16 carry aboard? 20mm Vulcan?

AFAIK, 510 maximum. Less are carried during training. Most of the time even if all 510 are loaded, for training, pilot are only set up to fire around 100 round through the round counter and round limiter switch on the right side.

I would really much appreciate if there will ever be a viper. I loved Falcon 4.0 so much. I prefer the hornet but if there will ever be a viper, of course I will fly it :D

Come on mkiii,

You know the rules here.

If you need to say something about it, just reference it by saying, you know that other 3 letter sim.

1.15 Discussions of other game companies products are forbidden.

This threads is about the F16 for DCS.

The F16 will be done eventually, other sims are dated, not saying there not good still, just looking a bit too dated for my liking.
