Hi RAZBAM, I was curious what are the special options that will be included with the Harrier?

I was hoping there would be a potential option for unlimited water while learning how to take off, hover, and land vertically so I could take my time without the added pressure of worrying about water levels.

Would there be any other special options available to the harrier?

Good idea.

Talking of water, I wonder if the OAT of the mission or the barometric pressure/airfield altitude will play a part in hover performance. Did RAZBAM model it to this level of detail I wonder?

Caucusus in winter at an airfield near the coast + a light aircraft = plenty of thrust for a good hover performance but NTTR in mid day heat would be another story!

i disagree.

if anything is "unlimited" or so you will teach your self "wrong" behaviors that have to be retrained after you switch it to "limited" it think you will find out that there is plenty of time with the water reserve that is onboard.

and if i remember correctly you can hover without the water injection but the engine performance will suffer from it. but with a light airplane it should be possible.

While you can do that the water not only increases thrust, it also helps cool that big Pegasus Engine, too much hover time without water and your engine turns into a fireball.

Even if you disagree it can still be an option, you just don't need to use it.

+1 for the Unlimitd Water option. Whoever doesn't like that, doesn't have to click it :D

As far as I understand from the Pocket Guide and the NATOPS Manual, you don't need always the water injection. I guess if you have 50% fuel, no stores loaded, external temperature not above 15°C, you can have enough thrust to hover without overheating the turbine... if so, no water needed.

High jinks!

It's not that easy in MP, where it would be an unfair advantage (cheat), so if they would add such an option, it should be possible to be disabled by server admins.

I cant imagine any MP server running a mission with this on. If the default setting is off then there is little risk of it being accidentally left on. I think it would be a valuable training tool to have this option available.

And how is hovering going to be an advantage? They are a sitting duck when hovering.

Let people choose how they want to fly instead of you dictating to them how to enjoy the sim

Also, the server and mission options override the client options.

We are debating what special options will be available but unlimited water is not one of those.

If anything, we may tie it to unlimited fuel but for the moment water is limited and you only have 90 seconds of it.

I agree, unlimited water would be a very good option.

Some special options cannot be in the as they are classified.

NATO special weapons station release and PAL, probably won't be there. For obvious reasons.

Any ARC secure encrypted radio communications.

USMC Harriers and LHA's have Harrier special OLS director lights that guide aviator for precision vertical landing. I hope that is modeled.

Harrier in-flight refueling is probe and drogue. Hopefully that will be in the sim.

Sounds like a good compromise, but doesnt unlimited fuel give you permanent full tanks? The Harrier doesnt hover very well with full fuel?

Totally agree! That's why real pilots are banned from training in simulators. There's nothing like limited fuel, live passengers, and an expensive aircraft to hammer that lesson home.

+1 It's the same story with unlimited fuel and weapons - useful for training over and over again in the same mission, which is a big plus for me as with my entry-mid range PC loading times even for playing the same mission again can be up to 10 minutes and if there's no unlimited option I would just stop trying to VTOL the Harrier because I would get sick and tired of waiting 10 minutes unnecessarily to practice hovering it under conditions where water is more necessary (and from Zeus's comment I have absolutely no idea how RAZBAM intends for us to refill the tank (would that be tied into the fuel?)) - all the more reason to have better ground crew options, maybe extending so that we can fill each tank individually as well as all at once (like FSX).

Plus there are some of us here that aren't real pilots, with limited free time and DCS is a quintessentially a computer game, albeit granted a computer game which allows us to do what we do the best out of other PC flight simulators. But the point remains the same, plus we have difficulty options and even 'game mode' avionics some aircraft. So there's absolutely no reason not to include it at all.

It's funny because in the hotspot detector thread Zeus said and I quote "USMC wants a god-mode sensor" as justification for a god-mode sensor but apparently they don't want unlimited water? I'm not having a go but hopefully you see the point I'm trying to make here.

Ha ha ha solving sarcasm, with sarcasm! Good one.

Damned shame I can't tell people's tone of voice with typed text, I do apologise though I am glad we have somebody more enlightened than me... It would just be more helpful if people were a bit more explicit, instead of being sarcastic with each other, wouldn't it?

Hi Lunatic98, I sincerely apologise for unintentionally misleading you. As a Brit it is my solemn duty to inject sarcastic humour whenever possible - along with occasional understatement and references to the poor weather. I had hoped that the smiley and the reference to training with live passengers might have given the game away. I can only assume you are an American in which case I sympathise and understand your utter confusion! :-)

To clarify, I would like to genuinely support the suggestion for an unlimited water option to allow for easier VTOL training.
