OK. I am obviously missing something here but it seems that someone has superglued myharrier to the ramp.

not had any success since release in performing a vtol. situation i continue to have is with brakes on - no movement at all (nose does not want to pitch up) or with brakes off it rolls either forwards - backwards (dependant on nozzle angle) or again, stays planted on the tarmac. i can lift the nose at this point but it does not want to go above 6deg.

i think i'm reading correctly i need a 10deg pitch but this just isn't happening.

flaps are in stol setting and externally things look all set when compared to some of the videos and images i've looked at.

have i overlooked something obvious?

thanks.

Not sure if you have used the editor in DCS skipy?

For VTOL practice, it's good to just have half a tank of fuel only, no weapons etc.

Quick little light mission I setup ready to go with half a tank so you can VTOL easy. Set the nozzles to around 80 to hover, try landing on the Tarawa that's out in the bay;)

Put the mission attached in:

C:\Users\(YOUR USER NAME)\Saved Games\DCS Beta\Missions

When you launch DCS go to Missions (My Missions) and select it.

Have fun:)

stripped payload and trialled there. went up like a wee beauty and transitioned with no issues. need to work on binding as was a bit tricky with the controls but that comes down to preference and memory.

thanks for the pointer. it was certainly something i had overlooked.

i had the same problem, i never thought i would be able to do it... until i did.

for me i was incorrectly using the nozzle, was basically trying to eyeball it in at 80 degrees... then i started using the HUD indicator and dialed in at 82 degrees and whamm i took off vertically!

as others have mentioned make sure youre light w no weapons and make it easy ion yourself in the begging, then work your way up by adding stores.

good luck!!!

Overcorrection of throttle is an issue. You really need small, smooth corrections when trying to maintain the hover. Also get above 50feet to get out of the ground effect.

This is spot on. Turbine lag is a very real thing on these older engines. Harriet in particular. If you look on the ENG page there is a section of approximate time to ramp up to a certain engine RPM percentage. Personally I have been watching the RPM gauge like a hawk when in any other nozzle position than 0 degrees.

I have the same problem, this is a video of one of my attempts. I think I followed the procedure of a YouTube tutorial but maybe I'm missing something, when I give full throttle the aircraft doesn't lift off  Any suggestion?

OK for the life of me I can't find any indicator on the HUD for the nozzle angle.. I adjust the nozzles up and down and noth9ing on my HUD correlates to what I am doing.. Where exactly is this indicator?

I've done multiple VTOL landings and takeoff. Point the nozzles 80 degrees down (set the HUD to INS and you'll have a reading for nozzles, flaps, AoA, slip, etc, these are all very helpful) and full power, should work every time. If you're not getting off the ground, it means you're too heavy, pretty simple as that.

The one exception I had was being unable to get airborne after a very rough landing (if you want to call it that), but that's PROBABLY because I broke something, or maybe fried the engines.

Only run at the 100+ setting for short periods of time and most preferably with the H2O set to Takeoff or Landing as appropriate to your activity. You takeoff, immediately starting adjusting the nozzles back, full transition into level flight should take approximately 10 seconds.

Pitch up? You shouldn't pitch the nose at all. Look at the plane in external view. It's level. Note the location of the nose on your HUD while sitting on the ground, that's where you want to hold it during takeoff. If you're pulling back on the stick or doing other weird stuff, that's going to interfere with your takeoff and make you wobble all over even if you did succeed.

INS selector behind the stick, should be in Nav. Then, the HUD mode in VTOL. You should see bottom right N and a number. That's the nozzles angle. Also at the right of the front panel you have a gauge. Just where the RPM, Temp, etc is.
