sze5003 Posted January 29, 2018 Posted January 29, 2018 Ok I think I am now ready. I had all three versions on my gaming SSD, my E: Drive, but no room for 2.5. So I uninstalled 1.5 Stable Release. I copied my Open Alpha install to my H: Drive, a HDD. I changed the registry to reflect DCSW 2 Open Alpha in H: drive path. I then delete Open Alpha from my E: SSD. So now all I have is 1.5 Open Beta on my E: SSD, with room to spare now for upgrading it to 2.5. Open Beta. Does not really bother me to run on the Beta branch. Hopefully it will now copy any needed files from Open Alpha from the HDD drive it now rests on. If somehow it doesn't, well I guess a complete new install never hurts either lol. Is it weird that I can t move my 2.2 install because I can't find the registry for it in regedit? NTTR works, 2.2 boots up fine but now I dunno how the installer will know to copy files from the right area if the registry isn't updated. I easily found the registry key for 1.5 and the one for 2.0 should be in that area too but it's not. NeilWillis Posted January 29, 2018 Posted January 29, 2018 I want to end up with 1.5.8 Final and 2.5 Release. If I wait for Stage 2 am I right in assuming that: 1) Purchased modules will appear in both versions? 2) With both versions installed, when I add another module in the future, it does not matter what version I activate it in I will be able to use it in both (assuming the module is compatible with both)? I suspect you will not be able to use future modules in an obsolete version of DCS World. ED would need to continue supporting it in order to release patches every time a new module appeared. They have said it will no longer be supported once the 2.5 branch is released.

sze5003 Posted January 29, 2018 Posted January 29, 2018 You can just go ahead and create the key. I suppose I can manually add it by copying the key from 1.5 and changing the info to match where 2.0 is installed. That's what I did too. The SSD that holds my 1.5 OB has 120GB of empty space, that should be enough. :D How did you initially install the Open Alpha? Check HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, maybe it somehow ended up there... I installed it via the 2.0 alpha installer on to a separate SSD and then I used the command line update to update 2.0 each time there were fixes. I have the dcs updater tool here from the forums too but I mainly used that to unregister and activate my modules again after I changed processor and motherboards. QuiGon Posted January 29, 2018 Posted January 29, 2018 I suppose I can manually add it by copying the key from 1.5 and changing the info to match where 2.0 is installed. Yes, that should work. Make sure you name the key accordingly: Just in case, the updater seeks for the installed versions in the registry, the paths are expected to be in: "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\Software\\Eagle Dynamics\\DCS World 2 OpenAlpha" "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\Software\\Eagle Dynamics\\DCS World OpenBeta" "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\Software\\Eagle Dynamics\\DCS World" string value "Path". sze5003 Posted January 29, 2018 Posted January 29, 2018 Thanks for the paths, this will help. I was helping someone else on the forum who wanted to move his dcs install too. I wrote a small script to copy the install directory but before I tested the script I dunno what made me check registry but I did anyway and was bamboozled as to why it was no longer there. I took it as a sign of something may have changed when I did last Friday's 1.5.8 update in preparation for 2.5. They also did not say anything about Feb 7 or 14. They just talked vaguely about 1-2 weeks later. Please stop taking estimates so seriously, because this just leads to the usual accuses that ED doesn't keep promises they never made...
