Snacko
With my Triple-Screen (nVidia Surround) monitors, I also have a touchscreen plugged into my MB's on-board Intel HDMI port. So, I just made the touchscreen my primary monitor in Windows and ran the game on that. I connected to both Buddy Spike and 104th Plane Selection screens fairly quickly. Maybe it took 2 minutes to get there. Which was good. But on both I got 1-2 fps, even after I selected a plane and got into the cockpit. After a few minutes it went up to 10fps. (which may be normal since the onboard Intel card is crappy, and I had game settings very high for my 1080ti). IDK.. So, I made my nVidia Surround the Primary monitor again and tried connecting to both of these servers again. On the 104th, with 55/57 players and a ping of 963 it loaded to the Plane Selection in about 2 mins. The fps was 1-2. I selected a plane, and got into the game, but the fps was still 1-2 and it didn't draw the cockpit until 5 minutes later, then the fps went up to 67. On the Blue Flag the ping was 939 with 46/55 players. The mission loaded in about 1-2 minutes. The fps were slow for only about 2 minutes. By the time I had selected my aircraft fps was 60 and I got into the game great, with no problems. So, this is just weird.. Wish it could be fixed. ED Team BIGNEWY Posted March 18, 2018 ED Team Share Posted March 18, 2018 (edited) With update 4 I have timed myself from starting MP to entering a cockpit. It is about 4 minutes for me. I have the frame counter open, when I select the server and start the load the frames drop and I load into the server, I stay in the lobby until my frames return to normal 60 / 100+ and then I select my aircraft, the cockpit will load within 20 seconds. If I load into the server a second time it takes 40 seconds total. The first load is always longer as the shaders have to be created. so give yourself some time, lower end systems may have to wait a little longer. We have more optimisations coming, ED is aware and working on it as a priority. thanks Edited March 18, 2018 by BIGNEWY Forum rules - DCS Crashing? Are you saying that shaders have to be created every time we join a server the first time? If we exit the game, or reboot, and join a server those shaders are again created? Snacko
I didn't know that. So you are saying it's loading into memory, not recompiling them? I have seen this in my log often, as others have. It is very strange... Obviously some work is being done that is not expected. I would expect compiling shaders to eat processing power and kill fps as well as take a long time. Heesh
My understanding is they are created on the first load, if you exit, any connection after that they have to be loaded. if you just close back to the MP list they are still in memory. This is true while it is true for everything game related like textures, models and so on. As long as the objects are still in memory the loading times of loading a mission the 2nd time will be faster. Even though those loading times are very much higher than before (1.5.8 and before the last beta patch). And even (at least on my side) over 5 minutes of loading time without any log messages written is a little bit odd to me. The phenomen of getting kicked back to the main menu is likely to be caused by reaching server timeout when finally getting to the lobby screen (just my guess). The one thing what bothers me is that the loading times in MP are much much higher than every other single player mission. This should be the question! I didn't know that. So you are saying it's loading into memory, not recompiling them? I have seen this in my log often, as others have. It is very strange... Maybe its patch related (new shaders). If you delete your saved games / dcs / shader folder you are getting this messages. After a shader is created once the same message for a specific shader should not be shown again.
