Devs said that they made trees biger on purpose, so they could use less trees to make forests look more dense. For better performance of course.

Finally I did the modification of 30% less size and its looks incredible now. Not fell less forest popultated area, even I can notice firebreakers and river along the scenery, and of course the sense of speed is greater!

I think this modification will be the standard, please devs take this point into accound, and many thanks for this find Bananimal, now its great

I tried with NOTEPAD++ but when I open those files, it give me text with null caracters, please give me a advice to edit them. Thanks!

You don't need to care of the null caracters, only use the control+H shortcut to open a window and replace the numbers one by one.

Careful, Pedro, you got the folder structure wrong I think.

Don't edit the null characters. In Notepad++, click near the top line in the file then just use CTRL-H and paste the original value in the "Search for" field and in the "Replace with" field paste the new value. Click the "replace all" button and it will replace all entries for that value in the file. Once you are done with all the values save the file and you are done.

What's your view angle? IMO that's the most important part (besides altitude) concerning the correct sense of speed.

I never really check that to be honest. I have a button on my hotas to adjust it on the fly. I set it to where it looks right and leave it there mostly.

As far a screenshots guys, not much really to show. You'll just see slightly smaller trees. The real magic is in motion. Try the mod, if you don't like it, remove it. It only takes a few seconds now that Pedro has wrapped it up in JSGME format for everyone. Piece of cake!

Thanks for zipping it up Pedro!

Has the collision model also got smaller by 30% during this operation?

IMHO, the forest looks little too tight in the forested areas. The lack of open areas, the randomness of different size trees and blotches of specific kind trees etc makes it very obvious it is meant to be "filled". So it ain't much different really from "open area" as you are looking filled tree tops without much revelation to ground.

Less trees + smaller trees + more open areas between + more same tree types in blotches == should be better.

Just gave it a shot. It's better, but maybe a 50% reduction?

Flying past, the largest trees were way larger than even the smoke stacks.

Agreed. Especially in contrast with the trains, which seem awfully small compared to those trees, even at a 30% reduction.

Yep. I just got out of the sim at a 60% reduction and the trees are still too big. Going to setup a 70% and 80% and test.

Here's what I'm seeing as far as the forests are concerned. Apparently ED's coding is superb. The smaller the trees get, the more of them thier code loads into the forest blocks. So, in effect, by reducing the size of the trees it looks like were gaining trees. Also, the reduction has opened up a little more space between the trees making them look more natural. I can tell you this, at 60% reduction, things are appear to speed by much quicker.

I'll post up a finished mod once I get 70% and 80%. Then folks can choose what suits their tastes. I'm thinking I'll be at 80%. I know that seems nuts, but it's what I think will look right.
