At some point, yes, just not yet. Blue would be otherwise hopeless against so many Red gunships/transport helicopters. Wish the AH-1 would arrive any time soon but it'd be at least 2 years, I guess. Which is why the Kiowa Warrior will be allowed on the server, despite all the modern systems onboard. It's not an Apache due to the small number of weapons carried and it would give Blue helicopters a bit of hope against Red ones. Also, check out FAQ's 6 and 7 on the main post of this thread.

Were you flying solo or did you have a human pilot?

 

On a side note, I see Mi-24 pilots flying high quite often. Unlike Ka-50, Mi-8, UH-1 and SA342 pilots Mi-24 pilots seem more comfortable at higher altitudes. Interesting...

The script is still (at least when I tested it) reading ground speed, not airspeed. It means the Viggen can't get past about 1.3ish at any altitude, it should be around 1.7ish up high (I haven't seen a firm number, renhanxue probably has it though) as going past 2 with fixed intakes is generally not going to happen. In other news, the DM still seems a little inconsistent, but needs further testing. From what I've seen and heard it's at least better than it was before, but I still had to chase down a guy missing a wing and burning to finish him off. I don't know if he was just barely able to run as long as he kept his speed up (F-5, 21 can manage similar sometimes) or if he simply chose not to manoeuvre.

 

IMO the number of high-drag bombs for the Viggen needs increasing across the board. They're both a lot of fun to use, and also your best weapon against area targets like FARPs or the factory on Open Range. The last two times I've played the latter on blue, we ran out several hours before mission end.

 

Echoing Johny's request for more Mi-24 slots here, as well. One more helicopter, maybe. I agree it's mostly hype driving it right now, but once the hype dies down I plan on regularly flying it and ideally doing so in a pair. Having four slots on larger/longer missions would give us the ability to focus on more than one target at a time, or even having three would give us two on attack duty and one as an escort for the transport helicopters.

The airspeed limiting script is being removed. If a player is caught exploiting the bug and if evidence is provided that player is kick/banned.

 

You have 100 x drag bombs at each Blue airbase. In some missions you even have road bases. You don't want to bombard a whole country, do you? 😉

 

Operation Hold The Line has 4 x Mi-24 slots. Both Battle Over Sukhumi Unleashed and Prince of Persia (currently offline) have 6 and 4 slots. 4-6 x Mi-24 slots will also be added to operation Search & Destroy (currently offline). So yeah, and just like you said, if a mission is big enough there will be more than just 2 slots. Also, keep in mind Blue has nothing to counter the mighty Red helicopters with. Which is why the Ka-50 and even the Su-25T have been removed from so many missions and still Red has been winning missions continuously as of late. Red also seems to be outnumbering Blue due to the Hind and its hype. I've got to counter the hype doing what I'm doing to avoid even more imbalance in terms of players' numbers and slots as well.

Server News:

 

- The speed limiting script for the Viggen's bugged max speed has been removed from all missions.

- Players exploiting this bug will be kicked or banned from the server, but only if evidence is provided by those who report such players.

- Work on a new Syria mission has started.

- Upgrading the mission Sneaky Bastards (Persian Gulf map) has resumed. Limiting aircraft in numbers might not be possible due to severe restrictions at the envovled airbases.

- Work on a new project has started... Will talk more about it in time...

TY, I was flying solo. Last time I tried the multicrew with the Gazelle was more than a year ago and it didn't work very well (lots of desync issues) maybe I should try again, it may have improved.

This particular Mi-24 was busy attacking Al-Bateen on the Once Upon A Time In Abu Dhabi mission so I think he was flying high to spot targets for ATGMs and had tunnel vision so I managed to sneak those shots.

It's a mighty weapon to clean an objective.
On a side note, my gazelle was reduced to dust a short while later by a sniper shot from an AI BMP gun. This thing is really fragile, I miss the 24 in those cases 🤭

And chance of the new Syria mission being located in/around Cyprus? ‍😏
It would be especially cool if one coalition has all of Cyprus and the other has to attack the island or something similar to that

Hi all, newbie here. Got my f5 and mig 21….   Have been mostly into warbirds and SoW server. This seems to be a fantastic community too. Is there another meet and chat area than this thread? Like a discord?

I did couple tests for EWR for P51, it works only with specific EWR names like Darknight, Warrior or Pointer. With names like Mantis it doesnt work. So simply change name of EWR to Warrior for example and it should work

Upon tacview inspection - looks like I was chasing the F5 & firing but they stalled out / went straight into the ground while I was on their tail. No actual hits connected (thought they did).

@Alpenwolf Could you replace one of the jtac slots with a tac commander one in Phone Booth ? (Since EWR's and ground units need to be activated now and only tac comm slot allows that)
I hope ED will fix this, it really is making chopper life frustrating.

Also, this mission ended today with a win for red side while blue still had Nalchik. Red destroyed the blue incoming vehicle group to Beslan while blue didn't finish theirs. What are the parameters to win this mission exactly ? (I always thought it was holding both airfields)

On a side note there are still people flying CAP Viggen with 6 Rb24Js, I wish there was a way to lock loadouts at 2 maximum 🙄

The RB24J is a must for the strikers. Everyone that I know on the server has kept to 2-4 RB24J’s per flight. One way to limit folks that hop in and load up with x6 is to place the RB24J’s on Road Bases only. This way the dedicated strikers have the possibility to arm up, and the less dedicated will stick with the RB24’s.

It's in the briefing actually. And no, it's not about capturing and holding both airbases. This is one of my first missions ever where TA's are activated once previous TA's are finished regardless of what the enemy's doing. Both coalitions have the same objectives and it comes down to who finishes his first. Fighters focus on annoying enemy strikers and helicopters while protecting theirs.

Good idea, however, taking off from the main airbase for the first run without capable air missiles is a handicap. We'll have to live with this until the option for limiting certain weapon types for certain aircraft type or pylons is available. That's it. Continuous reworking things to go around some nasty bugs or exploits is a never ending story. And this one here is not a vital thing to the extent I'd need permanent reports about. Just live with it, guys, until one day...

I re-read the briefing before posting and I didn't find this quite clear (maybe it's on my end though😄

 

You're right @NELLUS, AJS as a striker needs self defense. We'll continue to try and tell people carrying 6xrb24Js that CAP isn't the Viggen main role on the server. I know most usual Viggen fliers respect that but I've had at least two instances these past few days with guys loading 24Js up the wazoo and not really giving a F*** when told that numbers are very limited while GCI is desperately trying to find strikers to complete objectives (and I've play red a lot more this week !)  Hopefully most will play fair but I'm a bit skeptical given past experiences. 

 

@Alpenwolf I understand you're doing what you can and we're all thankful for it ! 

 

How do you feel about that tactical commander slot in Phone Booth ? I'm guessing you didn't put one because it would make things too easy to capture an airfield with 1 or 2 bradleys/bmps without even driving them ? If that's the case let's just wait for an update so our EWRs work again without human intervention.
