I'd say this is not a bug, because this happened for real, far more than many aviators would care to mention.

There was a video around that showed you can actually fly the plane with wings folded. The guy who made it actually took off and then landed safely...so, definite bug

How can you declare it a definite bug without knowing that the real thing can't fly with folded wings? It may never have happened, but that doesn't mean it's not possible.

Here's some evidence to suggest it may not be that unlikely.

Basically it's just having less lift, therefor a higher speed on-AoA and less control since the ailerons are out of action. Maybe you shouldn't try to pull 9g in that state for safety reasons pinkiepieexcited.png

It'd probably result in damage to an airframe's folding mechanism etc, but you can and there have been instances of people taking off and landing with wings folded, so this is not an outright bug, but perhaps it could have some damage modelled if that's realistic.

Actually, I would call it a bug, but only from a catapult.

I don’t believe there is a shooter in the world that would launch a Hornet with a pilot in it before he unfolded and locked his wings.

Aerodynamically it might just be the biggest winglets to wing configuration in the world.

After all the most efficient wing would be circular.

Hornet Flying with Folded Wings

I believe this should be classified as a bug - the Hornet can currently launch from the CV with folded wings, do a complete pattern, and land again with the wings folded.

The aircraft handles vastly differently than it does with the wings spread and locked, but I don't think it should be able to fly at all with the wings folded... Much less at the low speeds from a CV launch.

Cheers!
