nessuno0505 Posted October 6, 2024 Posted October 6, 2024 @MilesD I already have a POINTctrl v2 updated to v2.6b firmware, I was only thinking about the possibility of making it wireless. Do you suggest me to change the firmware and use the HTCC software? Is there any advantage ove the vanilla pointctrl v2? What do you mean "you don't have to have your HMS mounted"?
MilesD Posted October 6, 2024 Author Posted October 6, 2024 (edited) The advantage to using Freds HTCC is to make it wireless and compatible with MSFS. You can use the Freds HTCC software and the special PointCTRL firmware he has on his site. It will use the Q3s hand tracking and use the PointCTRL FCUs to send the button presses. The HMS just has to be plugged in to a USB port on the PC. It only uses it as a dongle for the button presses, not the tracking. I was just talking with Fred and meant to ask him if that's what we did, but forgot. I am pretty sure that's how it works, but I will double check when I get home. nessuno0505 Posted October 6, 2024 Posted October 6, 2024 (edited) @MilesD That's interesting, thanks! So the HMS works just as a receiver, no need to have the camera aligned with the leds on the FCUs, I can plug it on the USB and keep it on the desk. But is Q3 hand tracking as precise as the vanilla pointCTRL? If so, why planning a wireless HMS? Maybe I'll do a test, I can go back to the standard firmware if not satisfied. Thanks again for the clarification! P.S. what about the APBs? They still work or get disabled? Edited October 6, 2024 by nessuno0505

HTCC has a different look and feel, but it's usually only used as an alternative if you don't have PointCTRL or want to use it in MSFS. The PointCTRL wireless HMS is for for headsets that don't support hand tracking natively, or for people who want a plug and play solution. The APBs are attached to the HMS, so they wont be on the headset if you use it as a button press receiver. Hope that helps. Snacko Posted October 15, 2024 Posted October 15, 2024 I just switched from a Reverb G2 to the Pimax Crystal Light... I have pried the camera and 2 switch pads off of my HMD. Any suggestions on the best way to remove the foam & sticky stuff? I thought I had see a vid or post a long time ago about how to do this, but I'm not sure. If your getting a new mount, you don't really have to worry about removing the old one. The HMS PCB just pops right out so you can put it in a new mount. The Pimax Crystal mounts are available on the site for $8.00 USD, or I can just send you the STL files if you have access to a 3d printer. https://pointctrl.com/product/hms-case/ Just let me know, Miles 1 Now shipping up to website Pre-Order Form date 2022/11/15 Pre-Order Form Submission https://pointctrl.com/preorder-form/ PointCTRL Support Discord https://discord.gg/jH5FktJ PintCTRL Website https://pointctrl.com/

No new mount. I'll try pressure and rolling it off and see how that works. Cheers! EDIT: Ok, I see there's a difference in the mounting plate.. I cannot see the underside of the Pimax Crystal Light version. Is it concave? Like the Crystal Light's hump in the middle? Thanks for the info!! Just wanted you to know I've tried PointCTRL with the modded firmware and HTCC on my quest 3: even though I managed to get it to work, I find the original PointCTRL a lot more precise and easier to calibrate (I couldn't calibrate it at all with HTCC), so I reverted back to the original firmware. I'm still tied to the cable, so if you plan a wireless HMS count on me as a loyal customer! (I'm trying to fly using quest link with USB cable: when it works it gives the best visuals maybe, but the USB connection is not always reliable: sometimes it does not work, sometimes it gives "USB debris error" - a known link bug; the wireless connection is easier, both with meta link and virtual desktop; combined with a wireless PointCTRL it would be a great thing!) GoonEb1rd Posted November 11, 2024 Posted November 11, 2024 PointCrtl is acting strange when sensing either FCS. Already ran a calibration (failed) Redid firmware. I tried factory resetting. I held set up, tapped reset, and then followed the process. There are no results either. Uninstalled and re-installed. I reseated UBS cables. I tried 5-point steps as well, with no success. Also, the axes are reversed; not sure how to flip/change if possible. I tested facing a monitor and towards a blank wall to check for interference/reflection. Testing facing a blank wall. The results are the same: cursors erratically bounce around the screen. Unable to use the devices. Any help? Does anyone see this or similar? Thanks.

It sounds like IR interference from sunlight or lamps. PointCTRL is sensitive to IR interference just like TrackIR, even more so, because we look all around when using VR. The cursor movement being reversed is usually caused by a bad calibration and should go away with a default reset. When doing a default reset be sure to wait until the cursor jumps to the middle of the screen, and then begins moving from left to right before you release the "Set-Up" button after tapping the "Reset" button. An easy way to check for IR interference after a proper default reset, is to go yo your desktop (not in DCS), activate a FCU, and immediately put the FCU out of sight of the HMS (Head Mounted Sensor). Then move the headset around looking for for cursor movement on your desktop. If you move your headset headset around until the cursor is in the middle of your monitor, it should be facing the source of IR interference. Don't forget the HMS will only remain active for 15 seconds after the last button press. There are a few thousand of us on the PointCTRL Discord and it's a great place to get assistance. The guys are always picking up my slack and answering questions before I get to them. I also like to solve things quickly on Discord voice. https://discord.gg/MTvsNq2yHw Here is a good way to test PointCTRL on your desktop. Let us know how it goes. You will be fine with the offset. The HMS sensor has a wider FOV than the Reverb. You may want to angle its slightly inward so its looking directly at your finger when it is extended. A recalibration may be necessary. Let us know how you make out. 1 Now shipping up to website Pre-Order Form date 2022/11/15 Pre-Order Form Submission https://pointctrl.com/preorder-form/ PointCTRL Support Discord https://discord.gg/jH5FktJ PintCTRL Website https://pointctrl.com/
