Miles,

Have you had a chance to test PointCTRL with X-Plane 11, or is it only designed to work with DCS?

This question by 2alpha-down fell through the cracks, so I'm bring it back again, because I'm also interested in the reply.

It's essentially an "air" mouse. I thought the point was it worked on virtually *any* VR title, no special programming/integration needed. IIRC, that's been mentioned, but it is a long thread .

Thanks for bringing it back up.

PointCTRL works with any sim with clickable panels and mouse support. I have briefly tested it with X-Plane and Prepar3d and it functions just like the mouse. IMHO neither of those sims has the refined mouse control of DCS. Los has tested it more with X-Plane and a government entity has been testing it with Prepar3d. There are some small quarks with each sim not related to PointCTRL, but how they implement mouse functions. When I catch up, I will look for work arounds.

Thanks

Miles

Hey Chic,

I am sorry, I know you asked about this before. I just tested out what you want to try, and it worked pretty well. I mounted the camera to a fixed position, above and behind my head. Calibration was identical to VR. The only difference is your arm should stay the same extended distance as you calibrate at. Its a pretty natural thing to do. If you have track IR you will have to hold your head still while clicking. If you mounted the HMS to your head I think the ratios would be to far off.

Thanks for being patient.

Assistance with Pimax mount

Below is a PDF of the Pimax mount. If anyone has the time, It would be great if you could cut out the AA section view and the side view and see if it fits. If you could take a pic of it taped 90 degrees to show the fit that would be great too.

I am trying to ship to some to the initial "slow roll" testers today who use the Pimax

Thanks,

Miles

I can do that a few hours from now, if nobodies sooner.

Thanks Cordite,

Hold off until I update the above PDF, It seemed the angle was off.

Here are the pics from Firecat with the HMS superimposed. Our intent is to get the camera parallel with the line of sight. For those with the Pimax, does this look about right?

Thanks,

Miles

First pic seems about right. For the 2nd pic, I measured 15 degrees, 30mm, 60mm, 70mm.

I’m afraid this isn’t very helpful... Any other Pimax 5k/8k users that can take a look?

I'll check when the PDF is updated and report back

So with some of the new VR headsets having built in cameras, what are the chances of using those for the tracking of the finger devices?

I am sure it can be done. Point Control was designed to be plug and play for all current and future headsets without any software integration. When I have time I will probably look into it if the cameras can track at the 200fps of PointCTRLs sensor. I am sure someone smarter than me will make something better soon.

Thanks cordite, I ended up layering the pic in the CAD program.

Out of curiosity, what CAD/CAM programs do you use?

i think u are still ahead of other companys, if u look at the new VALVE INDEX with its modular plugin front, YOU can be the first to provide a useful plugin for it.

most companies are going for hand and finger tracking, which isn t as accurate as needed ( i tinkered with it when the first xbox360 kinect came out) clicking/picking was always moving the cursor. it wasn t accurate enough as well.

the three physical buttons u are providing is your market unique selling point.

if u ever do an iteration for the INDEX i will, for sure, order one

if u dont ,i m afraid i wont be able to withstand modding your parts :music_whistling:

keep up the great work

Industrial strength!! Thank you. I'm always curious what folks se. I use Vectric (way easy to use) since it's a combined cad/cam program in one.

That's the first I have seen of it, and I think that is a great idea. I would change the PCB layout to lay flat and integrate two vertical button banks on the outside edges of the well for things like NODs and visors. And yes, the Aux buttons are coming. The connectors are already built into the current HMS.

I don't see anything to snap into, I wonder if has magnets on the inside, although I would be surprised if they added that weight. I really don't like Velcro for these things.

Thanks for the heads up.

UPDATE:The "Slow Roll" has began. I contacted a few of the early posters who are active on DCS and live on the east coast of the US. They should be receiving their PointCTRLs Wednesday. After their feedback, I will continue to ship to larger groups off the list. I will start small and then increase the shipment sizes as things move along. I am trying to avoid an unforeseen issue and 200 people having to send back their PointCTRLs.

Thanks for your patience, and leaving the pitchforks in the barn,
