Bout time this came to DCS :D

Agreed, and I hope its the USN version, not the later French one.

This is how badly I am the target for this:

I'd actually prefer the French version, even with its limitations. It's cool though, I'll take any Crusader, really. French Aeronavale Crusaders were pretty damn sexy, though. The perfect solution would be to just offer the Magics on the F-8 we get so it can pose as a French Crusader. MiG-21bis can't launch the Grom in reality and HB are considering letting the F-14 use R-73s, IIRC.

Reformers hate him! This one weird trick found by a bush pilot will make gunfighter obsessed old farts angry at your multi-role carrier deck line up!

How does this aircraft compare to the super-sabre? I mean they were both second generation fighters right? Apart from the obvious difference, the F8 could land on the carrier after all.

Current specs: Windows 10 Home 64bit, i5-9600K @ 3.7 Ghz, 32GB DDR4 RAM, 1TB Samsung EVO 860 M.2 SSD, GAINWARD RTX2060 6GB, Oculus Rift S, MS FFB2 Sidewinder + Warthog Throttle Quadrant, Saitek Pro rudder pedals.

I think it was more maneuverable than the F100, and faster as well better T/W ratio etc. All in all a better aircraft.

I don't know much about the French ones, were the radar or avionics significantly upgraded since they served much longer than the US crusaders? All that I can find is that they used magics instead of sidewinders.

From what I researched, it was mainly a squadron paint scheme change for the French and their own missiles fitted on. So yes, you are correct.

Also some distinct differences on the airframe. But I think this is because the French one is -8E and the Navy is -8J. An example is the rudder top chord.

Interesting, so no real avionics changes even into the 80's.

Well if we go by that standard, its a pretty low bar to meet ;)

Why?

Lots of western fighters have better a/a records against migs than the f8. F15/16 immediately come to mind.

Well of course they do. Those are much more modern aircraft. The whole point of newer models is to make them more leathal.

Tell that to all those guys who fought over Gulf of Tonkin and Hanoi against MiG-17s and MiG-21s.

I believe they only carried a pair of Magics, whereas USN Crusaders could carry up to 4 'winders. At least, I'm unable to find any Aeronavale Crusaders with twin packs.
