You may like them more than in other modules. You may think they’re more ‘fun’ or ‘interesting’ or ‘immersive’ or whatever, but if we’re using realism as the metric then HB missed the mark by a wide margin. Don’t believe me? Ask Victory205, former Tomcat pilot and one of HB’s own SME’s, if this is what it sounds like flying in a real Tomcat cockpit.

But even he said that while things like switch sounds can't be heard IRL they need to be there because you can't feel the switch click into place with your finger. Gotta have some kinda feedback.

That's really poor excuse for a study sim imho.

I'm still making some adjustments to this mod to try and get things a little better. I was talking to Carl last night and he showed me a vid of the HUM that the engines have. I'm trying to work that into the mod. The HUM sounds is already included with the module, so it's a matter of adjusting the pitch to get it to blend with my wav file replacements for the intake.

As far as the flyby sound. There's not much I know how to do there. The way it is setup, it kicks in after the aircraft passes. This means I would have to adjust the radius to start the sound pretty much at the back of the aircraft, then it steps on the Close Rear exhaust sound. Blending all of this together is quite the trick. I wish I was better at it. The distant aircraft sound is really bugging me too. It's on all the time and at the same level no matter how far you zoom in or out. Kinda wonky. These are the things that were not well looked after in the module IMO. To be made to feel like we are imbeciles and jerks for trying to make the Tomcat really shine leaves me scratching my head a bit. While I understand HB's position that their sounds are from a real Tomcat and therefore must be accurate, I don't understand the unwillingness to take a little advice from the community. It's kind of odd.

It’s probably less about the advice itself, and more about the tone in which the advice is usually delivered. People do tend to get a bit pitchfork-y.

I agree. Tone is a difficult thing to achieve with text.

I've updated the mod. If you have downloaded and installed it previously, you can download again. I removed the front flyby view completely. It was a constant droning that's not needed in the sim IMO. I also extended the radius of the intake sounds back to normal so that they don't cut out as soon.

Was not able to introduce the hum I wanted to, but oh well. This will work until someone else or HB make their adjustments.

I most certainly agree. I think the lack of a dimension in digital communication has probably caused more grief than what most realize.

Every time I see a locked thread, I question how much or how often was a message misunderstood in that thread. ‘‘Tis a shame, but we must continue to do better.

Personally, I think the F-14 is one of the much better sounding aircraft in DCS. I remember sitting on the tarmac on one end of the base with three F-14s idling all the way at the other end and the noise level they made easily drowned out most everything else. There are certainly areas I could see improvement. It would be great if that lowbeat howl the GE-equipped Tomcats produced in a bank could be reproduced in game.

Tomcats dont drown out all sound when sitting on an airport. Especially when you are clear across the other side. Now, when its in AB and going by, that's a different story.

Just took a flight with the updated sound mod. The whistle is much less pronounced during flyby scenes. If the back-end rumble could be louder that would be perfect, as the jet is rather quiet when flying over at 800ft AGL.

All-in-all, stunning sounds so far. Landing made the hairs on my arms stand up, hearing the intake whine change with my throttle inputs.

ENGINE SOUNDS KINDA DISAPPOINTING

Kaboom!!!! What a turn around. This thread went from “hey this is incorrect” to “what the heck” to “never mind I can fix it” to “we got this”. I like it!

Only things I would like to see corrected are maybe switch noises toned down a bit, certainly for someone who likes to taxy with canopy raised, there definitely needs to be a big volume adjustment for engine noise when the canopy closes, but the real biggie for me is the loud hum when Jester keys his Mic.

Those of us using transducers in our seat like buttkicker ect, get shaken out of the seat every time Jester opens his mouth.

I have to turn the amp off when doing assisted starts as this is completely immersion breaking.

And how is that HB's fault? It's your shaker's software thing.

Yeah great stuff. May I suggest punctuation in your next text to make it slightly less stressful to read? Thank you

Why aren't you using the simshaker software with a transducer?
