steelrfan85 Posted April 2, 2019 Posted April 2, 2019 Any tips on how to avoid and destroy SAM sites with the tomcat? There are no HARMS so that is out of the question. Would the LANTIRN work? I’m thinking’s it’s too low and range is way too close to destroy without being shot down. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Dino Might Posted April 2, 2019 Posted April 2, 2019 Use a TALD or two. Launch before SAM locks you. Then go in behind it with bombs.
Kayos Posted April 2, 2019 Posted April 2, 2019 How does that work exactly? Launch a TALD or two, wait for the SAM to engage them and then strike. I think someone just did a video about it. Check youtube. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Cytarabine Posted April 2, 2019 Posted April 2, 2019 *Tongue in cheek* Get a Hornet with some HARMs to come along?
TLTeo Posted April 2, 2019 Posted April 2, 2019 *Tongue in cheek* Get a Hornet with some HARMs to come along? No HARMs works too. Get the SAMs to shoot at the silly Hornets, then fly in with whatever a/g ordnance and steal the glory ;)
steelrfan85 Posted April 2, 2019 Author Posted April 2, 2019 I guess I’ll need to figure out how to create those circumstances in a mission editor. One of the missions built already when installing has me flying though like 7 or 8 missile sites which is impossible. There are just tomcats no hornets. I choose to engage my wingman to engage air defenses and he says running in but I don’t see hm do anything.

So essentially you are trying to use the TALD that is flying formation off your wing? - that works lol :music_whistling: Vampire
steelrfan85 Posted April 3, 2019 Author Posted April 3, 2019 I watched the video. It looks like it would work great on one site but not multiple sites in different distances.
QuiGon Posted April 4, 2019 Posted April 4, 2019 I watched the video. It looks like it would work great on one site but not multiple sites in different distances. Why not? Launch TALDs at each of them. Intel i7-12700K @ 8x5GHz+4x3.8GHz + 32 GB DDR5 RAM + Nvidia Geforce RTX 2080 (8 GB VRAM) + M.2 SSD + Windows 10 64Bit DCS Panavia Tornado (IDS) really needs to be a thing!
steelrfan85 Posted April 4, 2019 Author Posted April 4, 2019 I can only carry 4. The missions have them posted all over. Mission editor shows red circles all over the place. Some overlapping so I’d be in range of the other as well.
RustBelt Posted April 4, 2019 Posted April 4, 2019 Are you certain you’re supposed to destroy them and not avoid and evade?
steelrfan85 Posted April 5, 2019 Author Posted April 5, 2019 Here is the first mission. I have no idea how am suppose to evade the SAM sites. As you can see there are air defenses all over the place and the waypoints take me through all of them. I don't know how I would get around them anyways with fuel consumption. The tanker is all the way down Southeast of map. It is 120 nm from the carrier.
probad Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 it says tornados are on sead duty, let them do their job
steelrfan85 Posted April 5, 2019 Author Posted April 5, 2019 I don’t have enough fuel unless I’m suppose to stay on deck until they launch and start taking out sites
steelrfan85 Posted April 5, 2019 Author Posted April 5, 2019 I have to turn back to base to refuel. Tanker know where near me.
probad Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 tomcat design requirements involved loitering for over an hour away from the carrier, so if you're running out of fuel too fast it's all on you hint: there's more to using the throttle than keeping it pushed forward
Eldur Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 No HARMs works too. Get the SAMs to shoot at the silly Hornets, then fly in with whatever a/g ordnance and steal the glory ;) Do it proudly with the six barrel. You're flying a men's airplane, then do it like a man
steelrfan85 Posted April 5, 2019 Author Posted April 5, 2019 I was about an hour away. I only used afterburners on take off and a few times trying to avoid stingers.
QuiGon Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 I was about an hour away. I only used afterburners on take off and a few times trying to avoid stingers. There's quite a bit of throttle range BEFORE the afterburner detent that can be used ;) The Tomcat has so much thrust that it can even push against the sound barrier without afterburners, and pushing against it costs a lot of fuel. And btw, Stingers LOVE afterburners. They create a big juicy heat source to lock on to ;) Intel i7-12700K @ 8x5GHz+4x3.8GHz + 32 GB DDR5 RAM + Nvidia Geforce RTX 2080 (8 GB VRAM) + M.2 SSD + Windows 10 64Bit DCS Panavia Tornado (IDS) really needs to be a thing!

The tanker is all the way down Southeast of map. It is 120 nm from the carrier. That's a CAP mission, your job is to keep fighters off all the airborne assets. It's someone else's job to worry about killing sam sights, your job is to keep fighters off of them. Part of doing that job is staying out of the SAM areas so you don't get shot down.
steelrfan85 Posted April 6, 2019 Author Posted April 6, 2019 Have you flown the mission yet? Everywhere planes pop up it’s in the dead center of the SAMS.
lunaticfringe Posted April 6, 2019 Posted April 6, 2019 Have you flown the mission yet? Everywhere planes pop up it's in the dead center of the SAMS. You know what outranges a SAM against an air-to-air target? It's 13' long, 15" wide, and about 1000 lbs. Take a few of them. Take a couple more for their friends.
