I don't see how the index will be more demanding than the Vive Pro. The higher refresh rates are optional and will give you way more versatility when coupled with motion smoothing.

So you could try to aim for 45fps+MS/90hz, 60fps+MS/120hz, or 90fps/90hz. I agree, that you probably can't get native 120hz working with dcs, but you don't have to...

I don't want to derail this thread though. I am also looking forward to the first in depth reviews of the rift S and i also consider buying it, since it looks like good value.

I just wanted to make sure that people realise the potential of the index high refresh rate, especially when coupled with Motion Smoothing to get 60fps/120hz, which might just work in dcs with the upcoming VR performance patch.

Higher fov, canted displays.

Steamvr will have to do something similar as parralell projection compatibility as the pimax has to.

It's honestly going to take more horsepower than the 5k+, since it's even higher res than that.

.

Just to keep the 5k from looking horribly pixelated with that turned on, and so far DCS has been the only game I have played that doesn't need this 100% of the time,

The rendered resolution is like twice that of the actual panels, and that's just to keep it from not looking worse than cv1.

I was not aware of the reprojection issue with canted displays. Thanks.

However, if i understand it right, this is only a problem for games that do not support uncommon display angles, correct?

So, if DCS would implement native support for uncommon display angles, no reprojection had to be done and therefore there would be no spatial resolution overhead needed, correct?

When the renderer accounts for the reprojection, there should be no impact on performance compared to VR with planar targets.

Technically - on "planar" vr - you already do a different projection per viewport, the only difference would be tilting the targets.

I did some more reading on this, and it is indeed true, that ED would have to add compatiblity for non planar screens, to allow Index and Pimax to run with similar performance to other headsets of comparable Res. and FOV.

I don't own one of these, but i feel this should be high up on all the wishlists for VR...

In theory (!) it should not even be much work to support non-planar headsets. With the Pimax being used by many flightsimmers and the Index coming up, there is no excuse for ED to not support those headsets properly.

Dcs is in fact the only place where I haven't needed this apart from zoom or the occasional fog effect looking funny.

But in anything else, ranging from pcars, beat saber, H3VR etc to elite all needed parallel projection compatibility.

Might be pimax need more of this than index, and the index takes less of a performance hit.

Time will tell, as with always.

I'll happily have egg on my face but I doubt anyone with anythijng less than 2080/1080ti would have issues getting decent performance out it.

I would have been fine with. Almost as good.

Add on top pass through camera and the dash interface...

I expected to miss it but not as much as I do.

Now that's cool. My shows a ship of the 21st, with delivery by the 23rd. (I'm prime as well). I bought it as soon as it showed up on Amazon.

Phoenix has a huge distribution center, so I know that bad boy is sitting in there right now.... I'll go pick it up if they'd let me.... :-)

it might, but amazon usually includes your “prime” status in its delivery estimate calculations.

Yeah, I don’t know why Thursday. End of day Wednesday would make sense, 2 days after release, but end of day Thursday is 3 days

There are times it said prime 2 days for some things I ordered that took 4 days or even got lost. Some were not delivered.

I'm very curious how the rift S will fare for those that currently use the odyssey.

Yeah, mine has always said I should get it for release day - but when it does arrive, I'll be very careful unpacking and testing it so I can send it back in top nick if it doesn't meet expectations. That the main reason I ordered from Amazon instead of Oculus.

As is just typical, I've a very busy week coming up and am away on Wednesday and Thursday, which is disappointing, but there ya go.

Delivery time does not count the day it is processed and shipped. If it did next day would get there same day it shipped.

Think they charged a bunch of pre-orders yesterday, if you don't have a tracking number I don't think it's shipped yet.
