RAFmaster64
I'm pretty new in DCS and haven't bought any modules yet (only have 3 months experience on the SU-25 T). I was planning on getting the F-5 E to learn dogfight and energy management so I could later switch to the f-14 as a pilot (I've been told it's best not to jump right at the Tomcat), but I like multiplayer and there doesn't seem to be any f-5 friendly server available (I mean a cold war one, or at least one that doesn't include fighters with long range radar guided missiles). Any suggestions on a good sever? Or even wether should I consider buying another module to get started? P.D: don't want to pick F/A-18 as I don't want to get used to 'fly by wire' right off, maybe some day. Please help a noob :)
Kev2go
any modern aircraft that actually matters has FBW ;) IF not the F5 due to lack of servers on earlier aircraft, or don't want to jumpt to F14 , buy the Mirage 2000C. RAFmaster64
Yeah I was mainly looking for the F-5 to prepare for the Tomcat but i'm concerned about the servers. Edited August 18, 2019 by RAFmaster64
Nealius
Honestly the only two crossovers you'll get from F5 --> F14 will be 1) constant trimming and 2) rolling with rudder at high AoA. That said, there should be some Cold War servers with the F-5 available.
Zeagle
My server is good for the F-5. You or anyone else welcome at any time. It's constantly being developed. And I am forming a squadron based on the F-5 and the F-16.
QuiGon
This is an excellent server for the F-5, as well as for any other Cold War bird: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=211361 Intel i7-12700K @ 8x5GHz+4x3.8GHz + 32 GB DDR5 RAM + Nvidia Geforce RTX 2080 (8 GB VRAM) + M.2 SSD + Windows 10 64Bit DCS Panavia Tornado (IDS) really needs to be a thing! RAFmaster64
It seems most of the good servers are in Open Beta. Is that true?

Kev2go
the bulk of the mp community is on openbeta I see servers being more full in stable build. Count von Altibar
I recommend the Cold War server as linked to by QuiGon above. It's very F5 orientated and duelling with the Mig-21bis is a very balanced setup they're reasonably equally matched. Sometimes the server isn't shown in the list if so connect by IP option 193.70.81.
Mecrutio
I did the same thing with the A-10C. I used the Toad as practice. I kept getting better at it... even left the A-10 in the hanger. My advice? Don't use training wheels. Get the Cat. Well honestly buy both. Nealius
Considering that the F-5 has an ARI and doesn't need pilot rudder coordination, it's not much of a trainer for the F-14 anyway.
S. Low
Im not entirely sure why you'd need to get the F5 before the F14. Just understand that you have to be gentle on the stick, and beyond that it's just practice and stick time. I dove into the F14 a week or so ago and it's amazing. Best flight sim experience ever. And now I want to get the F5 just for funsies, not because I think it's some sort of training wheels.
FlankerKiller
Get the F-86, and fly on the Saber vs MiG server. Nothing really flies like the Cat. But for guns only BFM Sabers, and Migs are a good way to go.
