I made a graphic about the Hornet radar modes based on the Youtube-Tutorial by Growling Sidewinder. Hope you like it and please feel free to inform me about faults if you find some!

EDIT:

Typo, Reset of LTWS-Tracking

Something I'm still not understanding is what happens with the radar settings when you select weapons or if it's possible to keep the settings I had when I select weapons.

I am often frustrated with that I have the radar set up the way I want. Maybe 80 nm and 20 degrees scan and then I select AIM-120 to have the radar jump to 40 nm and 140 degree scan!

The Mission Computer has stored radar settings for each A2A weapon (AIM-120, AIM-7, AIM-9), with the Gun having its own hard-coded mode (GACQ).

You can select any of the A2A missiles, set up your settings and press SET, on the main radar page. It'll save these settings for subsequent selections of this A2A missile.

You have to do it for every mission, but I think we'll be able to set it up automatically, once the data cartridge functionality is implemented.

Not bad! One correction, you can't undesignate LTWS L&S and DT2 targets with NWS, you have to either select different targets to replace them or press RESET, on the main radar page.

I don't think I've tried it but what if I set my radar as I want and then lock someone and then select my missile. I guess that should work if I want to keep tracking someone without having to change the radar settings after I selected the weapon.

I did not quite understand it right now and having problems with the LS and DT2 targets. Very often I get an STT immediately and can only lock just one target...

NWS will currently only exit STT and ACM modes and go back to RWS. It has more functions IRL, they'll be added later.

If you have an L&S and DT2 target, NWS won't undesignate them. Rather, it's supposed to switch between them (the DT2 target becomes the L&S and vice versa), which will be implemented later. You need to press RSET on the radar page to completely undesignate the L&S and DT2 targets.

As for the radar immediately entering STT, I get this too. I think it happens when it has lost the contact just before you command a designation with TDC Depress and it rediscovers it while it tries to lock it. Then, instead of setting it as the L&S target, it locks it in STT. I don't know if that's supposed to happen or not.

IF you select that missile and SET (save) those settings, then go to a different missile or A-G etc, when you come back to the original missile it will have the setting you saved. If you just set your radar, then select a missile, it will change to either the default settings or whatever you already saved (if you have). If what you saved is the same as what you had when you switched to that missile I think it would stay the same (which I think is what you're looking for).

Ok, so I did a correction in the 1st posting. Could you please check it?

Thanks a lot!

Looks good now . I'm sure it'll help a lot of newcomers! You should consider expanding it every time the Hornet gets a radar update, to maintain it as a useful resource, since the radar operation will definitely get more complicated down the line.

Btw, you can enter AACQ with SCS Right from an L&S Designation as well.

And the reason that TDC Depress is not exiting WACQ is because WACQ is slewable (not yet implemented) and that function is invoked with TDC Depress while in WACQ mode. But with the current implementation in DCS, your chart is correct.

You can only tag two contacts in LTWS, L&S and DT2 - the image says three. It'll probably over-complicate it, but if you've got the JHMCS on then you've got HACQ & LACQ modes as well.

You cannot tag a third contact, but you can make it TUC and see its info, I think that's what the OP means.

Hello Tholozor, I agree with you, but actually LACQ and HACQ are Boresightmodi and the chart shows that you can switch back and forth in between. - I wonder how I can take your suggestion into the chart without overcomplicating it ...?

Also NWS doesn't get you out of AACQ unless it found a target
