Deano87 Posted September 26, 2019 Posted September 26, 2019 Not in the time period the aircraft is modelled. It won’t get a moving map. Roger_Balls Posted September 26, 2019 Posted September 26, 2019 +1 to those hornet drivers out there for having moving map :)
MadCat1381 Posted September 26, 2019 Posted September 26, 2019 As a Hornetdriver I must admit, that the first thing I switch off is the moving map. :D It's small, hard to read and the HSI symbology is barely visible. I have no need for a moving map. I guess on the tiny MFDs of the Viper it would be even harder to see anything on it.

Donut Posted September 26, 2019 Posted September 26, 2019 I never found the map useful in the F/A-18 or A-10 either and always had them off. I am looking forward to not having it in the F-16 as well as the simplicity of having only two MFDs. i5 7600K @4.8GHz | 1080 Ti | 32GB 3200MHz | SSD | DCS SETTINGS | "COCKPIT"

I only use it on a rare occasion if I need to use terrain to my tactical advantage or I need to know where the terrain is if I need to get low while in weather. Kev2go Posted September 28, 2019 Posted September 28, 2019 (edited) I almost always flew with my MM on the A10C I only turn it off on the F/A18 more often, because of how the MM poorly contrasts against information displayed relative to the A10C. In the A10C most of the information on TAD is displayed against a black backdrop so it doesnt make it difficult to read against a MM. Unfortunately it doesn't but IF F16C did hypothetically have MM capability and was presented in the similar manner to the A10C as opposed to the Hornet, I would very much love using it. That being said i can see modders implementing a MM function Edited September 28, 2019 by Kev2go Build: Windows 10 64 bit Pro Case/Tower: Corsair Graphite 760tm ,Asus Strix Z790 Motherboard, Intel Core i7 12700k ,Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 64gb ram (3600 mhz) , (Asus strix oc edition) Nvidia RTX 3080 12gb , Evga g2 850 watt psu, Hardrives ; Samsung 970 EVo, , Samsung evo 860 pro 1 TB SSD, Samsung evo 850 pro 1TB SSD, WD 1TB HDD
Harker Posted September 30, 2019 Posted September 30, 2019 (edited) Little OT, but I remember reading somewhere that most Hornet pilots lower the MM brightness to make the HSI/SA symbology more visible against it. This would be possible in DCS, if the different symbology brightness, contrast etc controls were usable, as they are in the A-10C. I've made a mod myself that excludes the AMPCD symbology from being controlled by the brightness dial or the Day/Night mode switch and thus only the MM becomes dimmer if I lower the brightness settings. Works like a charm. The only downside it that 1) you can't lower the symbology brightness for night missions and 2) you have to increase the brightness back up BEFORE you switch to the FLIR page (if you use it on the AMPCD) or the TGP video will look dark. If anyone wants, I can upload it, it's OVGME compatible. Edited September 30, 2019 by Harker The vCVW-17 is looking for Hornet and Tomcat pilots and RIOs. Join the vCVW-17 Discord. That's interesting. Do you maintain HSI symbology brightness control though the dial and/or the D/N switch? Does the D/N switch act like a toggle for the MM brightness? Swift. Posted September 30, 2019 Posted September 30, 2019 Harker the way it works is by lowering the brightness of the actual texture files themselves, so any effect that the ingame controls have is the same its just always lower than the unmodded equivalent. The downside is that the mod is 500mb 476th Discord | 476th Website | Swift Youtube Ryzen 5800x, RTX 4070ti, 64GB, Quest 2
