IvanK Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 Great video and a most impressive display. The canards spend a whole lot of time Leading edge down though. This is surprising imo as thats a lot of trim drag being created. I also cant quite figure out why in a Positive G pitching manoeuvre you would want the Canards Leading edge down ... surely that's got to be going against the desired pitch rate ??
GGTharos Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 They might not be elevators, but rather lift-generating devices like on the Su-33. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
Kuky Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 ^^^ My guess is the canards are there to direct more air towards the wing, or maybe smooth the airflow over the wing PC specs: Windows 11 Home | Asus TUF Gaming B850-Plus WiFi | AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D + LC 360 AIO | MSI RTX 5090 LC 360 AIO | 55" Samsung Odyssey Gen 2 | 64GB PC5-48000 DDR5 | 1TB M2 SSD for OS | 2TB M2 SSD for DCS | NZXT C1000 Gold ATX 3.1 1000W | TM Cougar Throttle, Floor Mounted MongoosT-50 Grip on TM Cougar board, MFG Crosswind, Track IR
Luse Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 Pitch-rate control maybe? STT Radar issue is leftover code.
mvsgas Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 (edited) AFIIK, they are there to try to prevent airflow separation and increase lift at high AOA, assisting the leading edge extensions and leading edge flaps. So, they do not serve like typical canards, more like the canards on the Mirage IIIS. Edited December 24, 2011 by mvsgas To whom it may concern, I am an idiot, unfortunately for the world, I have a internet connection and a fondness for beer....apologies for that. Thank you for you patience. Many people don't want the truth, they want constant reassurance that whatever misconception/fallacies they believe in are true..
AlexHunter Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 (edited) Haven't seen this thing next to the EOS on the Su-35, what is it? A part of the missile warning system or what? Edit: If I'm not mistaken several of these or similar sensors can be seen on the latest versions of Ka-52. google translator (VC) - air target (aircraft) Opto-electronic intelligence Purpose: • Ongoing review of the formation of spherical-mnemo and video images of the environment; • Automatic detection of infrared aerial targets (VC) and missiles; • Recognition and support of VC and missiles; • formation of signs of threat; • Display of VC and threats to the IFIs and audiosignalizatsiya danger; • field of view - area (for 6 positions); • Spectral range 3 .. 5 microns; • Error in determining the coordinates of CC is not more than 1 °. http://www.npk-spp.ru/deyatelnost/avionika/126-optiko-elektronnaya-razvedka-.html Edited December 25, 2011 by AlexHunter 1 Открылась бездна звезд полна; Звездам числа нет, бездне дна. A complete set of six pieces 4 in the bow and the two look back - up and back - down at an angle. ОЛО - Subsystem detection of laser. IMHO is not successful, it is better positioned to have endings in the wings as the MiG-35 Edited December 24, 2011 by AlexHunter Открылась бездна звезд полна; Звездам числа нет, бездне дна. (М. В. GGTharos Posted December 25, 2011 Posted December 25, 2011 I don't know the exact physics of it - these canards basically angle for something like close to 0 AoA, just like in the Su-33. ... but that would be negative lift.
