LupinYonder Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 No. It's classified. There is no access to any information that's needed to model its systems with any reasonable amount of fidelity. Tell that to some third party devs ;-)

Interesting. Must be significantly different to the Ka-50. I'm going to take a wild guess and say it's because it also has naval capabilities in the anti-submarine warfare department. How'd I do?
joey45 Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 It's more of a glass cockpit and updated sensors. The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance. mikoyan Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 Combustion chamber too short? apparently they had to cut it short to fit the airplane; to me it looks like they cut corners to get the jet ready as fast as they could. I still think that the mig-29 rocks!
marcos Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 The newer M variants have a FADEC'd version of the engine (RD-33MK) which apparently cuts down the smoke.

I still think that the mig-29 rocks! But I still would hope that this isn't the "normal" smoking behaviour of the engine: to me, it is clearly badly tuned: it is incomplete combustion and/or burning oil. Very bad for MBTO imho. aaron886 Posted October 17, 2012 Posted October 17, 2012 Was a typo, I meant MTBO Hah! Somehow I did not make that connection.

AlphaOneSix Posted October 18, 2012 Posted October 18, 2012 Russian turbine engines tend to drain excess fuel directly into the exhaust stream, which is what causes the smoke effect. More excess fuel, more smoke. It's just part of the fuel control design. Western engines have excess fuel as well, but it is not just dumped overboard. Of course, this entire process is what makes Western engines so much more expensive. Of course, older Western engines did the same thing. 1
