That's what I thought, too. The F-35 would require a government contract, but ED occasionally did get just that. It does match the way they described the upcoming announcement, and is just about the only thing that's in high demand, but neither already announced nor explicitly denied.

That said, I'm not a fan of F-35, and neither it nor Eurofighter would be at the top of my wishlist (neither would Rafale, BTW, it's in the same boat, so to speak). I'd rather have another 3rd or 4th generation jet. Give me the Phantom and the Thud. :)

It'll be the the F4U, where the ”huge milestone” and complexity is getting a gull-wing capable flight model and being the first WWII carrier airframe with the new damage model. And it's hugely anticipated by the CEO, which is all that matters. :P

It misses the "not yet announced" requirement. :) Leatherneck is doing this one, and had been for quite some time.

Or AC-130 — a huge milestone because all combat sims keep bouncing off the whole four-engine thing; complex because of the required multicrew and new sensor-focused stations; mindblowing because… well… Bofors 105mm and all that (ok, so it's mind melting, but close enough).

...and highly anticipated, don't forget. Nobody is asking AC-130, AFAIK. F-35 is popular, AC-130 would be a very niche aircraft due lack of infantry ops in DCS. Without infantry to support, fixed wing gunships just have no rationale.

Highly anticipated by who, though. They've used similar fuzzy terms to hype up the CE2 and WWII birds because someone at the company likes them.

And people have been asking for the AC-130 before but those were the main obstacles why it supposedly couldn't happen (infantry ops is already in after and it's about as limited as all ground ops but we have a bunch of CAS birds nevertheless).

I'm starting to think you're right.

Funny that somebody just announced they're making a full clickable mod with EFM and the different variants though...

Yes, I know of course. ???? But I wonder what will happen to it, if the secret module actually is the F-35.

Well, we'll see when the secret one is revealed I guess. ????

I've only been with DCS for four years. How long does it usually take from they announce something in this way, until they reveal it?

Cheers!

I think that the only thing that would be mind melting for the vast majority of DCS user base would be a very modern western aircraft (f22/f35/rafale) or a fairly modern russian aircraft. Lately they are teasing su-34 a lot (but I don't think they will be able to do a so modern russian module)...but also mig-29k (exported to India), could be a good candidate. Some rumors were spread about a Mig-29a....it would be a nice addiction for sure...but not so mind melting in my opinion. Also they excluded that it is something they already teased/announced (so no Hind, no Phantom, no Apache and then no Mig-29a).

We also all know the difficulties to get permission to do russian modules...So I am thinking more to a western jet.

There is also another explanation...that they just exaggerated in creating hype (remember Mil3 hype for the CEII...we all were going to think it would havbe been a mig-25 and where really upset discovering it was just a biplane - nothing wrong with it, but why all this hype then?).

About your question...the Hornet was first teased/announced in 2012/2013...work on it started some years later after collecting all the docs and probably license agreement with Mcair....

So basically it depends from how long it is already in development (I hope the secret module is already at a certain stage of development)...probably early access not before 2 years from now.

Hehe! I get it. Wasn't around for the CEII discussion, and I have no clue why that one was hyped at all.

My last question was more like, how long it usually takes from when they start teasing with a secret, until the secret is revealed. Not released. I can't really wait anyhow....

Ehehe...anyway the CEII is not from ED.

Anyway this is the first time they hype so much with a secret module (that i remember).

They announced the Viper at the end of 2018 but there were a lot of rumours around it in the previous years...also an announce on ED facebook page, deleted after some hour.,,,

Yeah. I didn't really mean that ED hyped it, but more if there has been such a hype as this secret module before. I'm having a good time with the hype, just hope to don't be disappointed. Hehe

Just wondering, as GR put "Module X" in the future Red Air category, what if it wasn't a western plane? If we exclude Russian, that does leave Chinese planes. I am curious what the chances would be to get a modern one in full fidelity, like J-10 ou J-15? Don't know how "mind melting" it would be, but I guess a 4th gen red air with Fox3 can be considered as such.

Personally, I wouldn´t put too much trust in this kind of videos...

Didn't say I did. It's just that everyone was so sure, in the last few posts, that we were looking at a western plane just because Russian full fidelity is out of the question. I wanted to shed some light on other possibilities and ask "what if". I find it funny to see so many requests for modern Russian planes, and comparatively few for the Chinese - albeit some are copies or even direct russian jets built under licence, China has a large industry for aviation and a huge budget for defence compared to Russia, so it makes for an interesting proposition as "red air" for the US jets already in DCS.

"Mind melting"

What does that mean - really?

Looking at DCS applicable aircraft over the last 100 years I can't think of any that really fit that description. Was it a slip of the marketing speak, a frame of reference issue, exaggeration?

What if it is referring to the game play aspect and not the physical parameters of the aircraft?

Reference to a multi-player paradigm we haven't seen yet? Better, fire and forget AI?

I suppose mind melting could refer to stealth - F-117 is obvious candidate - but I'm not sure it really fits - the stealth aspect is probably just novelty in the DCS environment.

Personally, I'd like to see team Redforce get some love. It's probably not practical for all the reasons already posted in the thread and elsewhere. However, I'm looking forward to the announced HiFi Mig-29A. Would love a HiFi Su-27-33. And I really like the idea of a HiFi Su-34. If the Su-34 teasing pictures are on topic I'm ok with that - first day purchase when it hits EA.

What if there is a bunch of FUD in all the things posted in the past by ED about what it is or isn't. If it's an "under cover" F-4 I'd be ok with that too. See the multi-player reference above.

The multi-player thing has lots of applications (also the in-bound Mossie, existing helos) so maybe it is something they've been working on. I always find that it seems like ED promises features (like multi-player in the helos) but then can't deliver in a timely manner because of dependencies on other modules/code... at least that is what it seems like when features take longer than expected and other code gets changed in the meantime. The people at ED must work long hours to get the amount of releases we get out there on a fairly regular cadence.

Maybe "mind melting" refers to what it is doing to the ED staff! Ha!

Whatever it is I hope it helps back-fill some of the holes in the range of aircraft we have in the various time frames within DCS. Modern Fox 3 Redforce would be cool too but unlikely even though it seems it is needed in DCS.

The only one that I could think of that would really fit is the SR-71, which would be… ehrm… difficult to fit into the general DCS gameplay. But even then, mind boggling would probably be a better description. The idea of what it does to the ED staff seems like a more sensible interpretation. :D

Yeah, that and the U2 might fit from that perspective but it doesn't really fit the map scale. The landing approach on both is probably at least from Tbilisi to Bulgaria. Ha!

Well that certainly looks interesting.....since the splash screen for the video shows a MiG-29M(9.15).

But I doubt that they realised that(and it changes to a baseline MiG-29 in the video) :)

Even a low fidelity, modern russian fighter would be more brainmelting than anything ED will announce...

It is not.. NineLine stated on Reddit "brain melter won't satisfy any RedFor dreams".
