Nevertheless it should be mentioned that the total lenght of a Nimitz-class carrier is 1090ft and the landing distance of a F-16C @ 20000lbs with 40kts WOD is only 1100ft.... ;)

The carrier going 20+ knots, plus wind...landing on the deck would be like jumping from a vehicle going 30+ miles per hour from 20 feet high (the chute have a high descend rate).

So ditching in the water and trying to land the aircraft on a carrier will likely hurt or kill the pilot and both will definitely destroy the F-16. Rather than doing either land on a carrier or ditch( ditch meaning to me flying the aircraft until it hits the water), I would eject in a control manner near a rescue force ( what ever that might be).

oh god, this is a game. We have simulators to try unusual things, risk and have fun rather than cry for a pilot..

Are you reading the same topic?

No one is crying because DCS is not an easy game and no one want to change the core game, wtf?

This guy just asked if it is possible to edit config files to enable the hook and thats all, on his own computer, not a request to ED.

Instead of simple reply he got tons of spam like "buy F/A-18, dont touch files, I dont like this!"

Yeah, and it's not like having the hook is unrealistic. It's on the real ones, just not intended for CV use.

Some hardcore sim guys get triggered the moment people deviate from procedure lol.

How many hundreds of head wind? :music_whistling:

Since a light F-16C needs only 1100ft landing distance with a 40kts headwind, a Nimitz-class carrier is 1090ft long and can make at least 30kts, you would need just 15kts wind...if the brakes would be as effective as on the real F-16.;)

'At least'. Not sure what the stall speed is on that biplane, but I do know how fast the Nimitz boats can go without the air wing on board...

The Enterprise was faster, though, especially brand new (before all the deratings) with Rickover in EOS 1 telling them to ignore the torque limits on shafts one and two.

And it still got run down by a November class sub early on... :music_whistling:

Why on earth do you want to land on a carrier in a Viper?

I've seen people trying to do so with any plane in DCS so far, including the MiG-21. And Wags

those guys to do that with the Viper as well.

I'd just like to see the hook working and eventually the realistic arresting systems placed on runways so we can make use of that to prevent overshooting.

I see that more as just Wags being realistic about what people get up to inside DCS sometimes rather then asking people to do it lol.

I agree with your second point though - should require a repair though if you do it online so that it can't be abused.
