Version 2.5.6.45317 was running well for me but the last two versions including today's version 2.5.6.47224 has poor frame rates, when a few other units are present. For example 4 109's vs 4 Spits

PErformance has not increased with the latest update....

Still huge FPS Drops with F-16, F-18

Older Warbirds are running fine, only Spitfire has a little lower FPS performance.

F-14 runns also quite good, same as Sabre, Mig-15, Viggen...

Seems that it also depents highly on wich module you are useing...

Why do I get the feeling that the whole thing is moving towards a WW2 sim kind of thing?

After all the "Modern Air" moniker has been abandoned ages ago. (I still have a physical copy of LOMAC on my shelf...)

Many thanks!

We use all possible ways and maybe I will ask tomorrow another mission or track in another thread.

DCS World 2.5: Часто задаваемые вопросы

I think you have more than enough data, people have been posting about this issue since February. Time to get serious about this

Please attach your test mission.

+1

@USSR_Rik: test KA-50 instant action mission and you will see. 7-8 seconds after start, a huge FPS drop to less than 10 fps (from at least 45 fps), only by URAL truck units moving (it occours when they start driving). AI serious pathfinding problem, I bet. If you delete those units, performance doesn´t drop.

@KATE This is no related to graphic shading&lighting improvements. I bet most FPS problems in 2.5.6 are related to AI management & pathfinding.

EDIT: Testing in VR, fps reduction (whout vsync) in Ka-50 insurgent attack, goes from 200 fps, to lower 25-30 fps. Maybe is not so noticeable in 2D. But in VR is tremendous (to 6-7 fps...from 45 stable). Going from 250 to 25-30 fps ONLY due the start driving of 8 URAL units, thorough the forest & open camp. If I set in mission editor that those units follow a road, fps seems stable. That´s reveal a huge problem with AI pathfinding. It is very easy to trace the bug if you look, concretely, to that mission.

For the slowdown that seems to happen with AI objects present, it does seem unlikely. Perhaps someone could ask Kate Perederko to comment on this specifically?

It's precisely what I'm talking about, when I refer to my "empty world" f-18 mission. I disagree that it's inevitable - the possible leveraging of new hardware features can often allow better graphics at similar or better performance.

I reckon there's been a decrease in performance of approx 10% - 20% because of these improvements. It's been "hidden" because of the disastrous AI object frame rate drops. But, in VR, where every bit of performance counts, it is not insignificant. From the quote above, it seems that we're going to have to live with it.

Quite clearly, I disagree with this statement, and I back it up with the screenshots I have posted. I'll wait for you to do the same, before I take your statement seriously.

Get em Hippo!

No seriously I pretty much +1 everything Hippo has said recently before and after this post. Showing equal results and having an equal DCS experience both in sim and in community.

This FPS fiasco since it STARTED has had me seriously concerned for DCS as a whole. For me the core is hurting with or without AI but objects in general seem to be doing severe damage. This isnt for dramatics, but I really am getting the "unfixable" vibe for months...

Again, I really wish ED luck and I hope they start increasing resources on a resolution (whatever that might entail).

Do not agree. I own all but the Yak. Campaigns as well and all show a hit on my end. A lower hit for warbirds and simpler modules but a core problem nontheless

did anyone else get their cockpit global illumination turned on with the last patch ?

I always run it and have good performance, only issue i recently noticed is posted couple pages back in regards to ai, the eye candy has no issue and performance on my end. I think some may need to try to roll nvidia drivers back to 441.87 and older and delete the fxo metashader2 folders.

The major drops are not the graphics, if anything i have much better overall performance at high settings, now the Ai in that ka50 mission is the prime problem that needs fixing.

MY BIGGEST FEAR!

Please dont let this happen...

nah lets face it VR is here to stay, especially for sims.

Anyways performance issue is in 2D too!

I'm getting the same thing with all the stuttering and game freezes causing full game restarts. Currently DCS is completely unplayable. VR is a must as playing on a monitor is unacceptable. I may have to come back to the game in a few months to see if a fix happens. Yeah my money is staying in my wallet for now. Hope the fix happens soon as I like the game.

When i run both stable and beta on the same PC on the same driver i get different frame times between 2.5.5 and 2.5.6, and you think its a driver fault... indeed i did unistall the current driver last night and reinstall 441.87 ... would you be surprised to know it made no difference at all... i know i wasn't...:pilotfly:

well suppose its WMR as my oddessey plus has allot of issues compared to my rift s. Driver roll back solved quite a few things aka SA page in f18 and such. Hopefully you figure it out and or a patch solves something. Im just not seeing issues other than the Ai issue.

as an example:

i use a static VR scene on the Stennis in VR, in 2.5.5 that scene runs at 90FPS in 2.5.6 that same scene runs at 44 with CPU and GPU frametimes spiking in the red... there are a number of fighters parked on the deck but i dont think the SA page is open on them ...

in another in free flight, again no AI present , frame times are up by at least 10% more like 15% across the board and much more CPU activity associated with Mirrors...

I know AI has a problem, but that's not all it is

why not do as many of us do- just revert to 2.5.5. All is relatively well there....except no mp servers I beleive

You know it's funny, it's entirely dependent on the mission for me.

Playing MP with varied assets and I struggle to get 40 fps.

Loading up the F-18C caucasus cold start, or the F-15C persian gulf cold start in single player and I can get 60-75 fps. With an HP Reverb at 130% and MSAA 2x.

I'm sure it's a complicated issue, but some combination of mission asset or unit path finding or I don't even know what is taking critical resources away from the rendering pipeline. It feels like version of the DCS engine has hit critical mass, more than ever it seems like priority should be leverage the additional cores of modern CPUs to handle scripting, physics, and AI.

That is an option. I'll give it a look.
