Starforce is no needed.

If the product is good, people buy.

Look at Heroes of Might and Magic, no starforce, lot of sales.

BS is or will be a good product, don´t use starforce please.

Greetings

this issue has been addressed countless times already, so far the best answer that ED has provided us is. "we don't know yet"

that being said, i too dislike starforce, it's the single reason i had to uninstall my copy of Lomac FC from my PC! turns out it messes with the firmware of my DVD burner rendering it useless for burning. in the end i got it working again by means of eradicating starforce from my PC and reflashing my DVD burner, damn starforce. the worst part is, starforce is NOT uncrackable! it's just a damn annoying nuisance for paying customers that's all!

I'm really glad there are people who can predict how many people will buy rather than pirate Black Shark - now ED know that nobody will pirate BS of course Starforce isn't needed!

;)

It's a tricky decision to balance.

You lose revenue from people who won't buy the sim due to Starforce, but you lose revenue from people who won't buy the sim because it's easier and cheaper to pirate it.

Trying to figure out which number's likely to be bigger, and which antipiracy software to use is witchcraft. I don't pretend to understand it. But apparently ED have a man doing the voodoo stuff and rethinking it all. At this stage, no promises either way.

A strong multiplayer component with central logon user management server and addons downloadable by online authorisation would keep piracy at bay.

Look at WoW and BF.

The ideea is to offer more than the pirated "product" can offer.

Thus you gain from more people buying cause of the better quality, more people buying by not avoiding the protection and by not spending on the protection and solving protection troubles.

1.Yeah, a huge 128-player online campaign for DCS!

2.Online service can give much more than that of a pirate copy.

3.Those people who only want to get a pirate copy of a game are nothing but rookies of certain games---they won't buy any game unless one day they fall in love with that game. And you ED guys know, many players love your LockOn game and they support you by buying it. And your anti-copy protection just adds some nuts to them. And those people who just have too much time so that wandering something to do may play that game but quickly get tired of it then throw it into shit.

In fact, a "real lover" will do his best to love his "honey"---buying the game instead of getting a pirate copy. I'm serious.

4.Official online campaign system for future DCS. People can join the battle at anytime anywhere, flying Ka-50,A-10A,AH-64A,F16C,Mirage-2000,Flanker,or any aircraft they preffer(by buying the specific aircraft module of the DCS),doing what they should do(like a real pilot in the real battlefield). It could be a dynamic online campaign, start from a July and end in November or on next year's some day without a server reset or anything that old games do.

Yeah,I mean it,a continuous real-time-depend online campaign

I prefer this... Why ED doesn't do Steam for DCS or sign to Steam games - now everybody who wanna play on normal servers (in CS:S) and have much goodies ect must buy game. There is no other way to play online (of course you can play in piracy steam but it sucks, big pings, cheaters, ect...). I would like prefer Steam DCS than next one StarForce.

Steam example CS:S is very effective anti-piracy "tool".

Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D

I've never bought a Steam game which cd key was NOT used, and it's damn annoying having to take pics and send them to some strange email just to prove you actually bought the games. And I always check the packages if they weren't opened before, yet every time someone else already is using the key I payed for. Besides that, all the advertising, massive amounts of sucked up HD space, unexplained hangs and CS installs that stop working all of the sudden, Steam is really great... If there was an alternative, I would happily set fire to all the Steam servers myself. Oh shit...

Odd, that - I actually quite like Steam, not had many problems with it.

. . . I say many . . . activating HL2 without an internet connection was a real pain . . .

Having said that, I do buy and download games directly from Steam. Might make life a bit easier.

Don't think starforce is good ... i mean.. it has been cracked... I have heard this sayings, for those starforce games that have not been cracked, it means that the game is not popluar.. think again, if any game like crysis, COD4 is using starforce, i think team like Razor 1911 will just easily do the job... Moreover, the bad thing about starforce is that, if u have a dvd burner, you will have troubles. And starforce kills your cd... my poor cd....

Guess what happens when the online verification server like STEAM is offline for more than 2 days - that would end in a pure outrage. Or the maintainer of the server closes the service? EA for example removes games usually after 1 year from it's servers when a successor was released. I'd rather use starforce if copy-protection is really needed.

Please keep any discussion about cracks and such stuff out of this forums. You can debate the pros and contras of copy protections on a constructive level.

Stuff like "StarForce will make you trouble when you use a DVD Burner" and so on arent constructive.

ok then,

starforce

pros

  • gives pirates mild headaches

cons

  • gives me(a paying customer) a major headache, reason being that it mucks up the firmware of my DVD burner, rendering it useless until i removed starforce(and the game "protected" by it) and reflasing my DVD burner :(

*said game is Lomac FC and said DVD Burner is Liteon 1633s

Silent Hunter has Starforce right? Well, that game was cracked before it was released.

Oh, come on! That is not true and I ain't a fan of Starforce.

I have a DVD burner, LiteOn, and it's still working.

Waitaminute...on second thought, the drive tray has been acting up lately, refusing to open sometimes... Huh! Starforce must be the culprit. I mean, I bought the drive like...only two years ago?

ED have been taking my money since 1995. :P

I also have StarForce and DVD burner - all working with no problems, I did so much things with SF and it didn't do any problems :)
