For Reverb G1, Steam VR at 100% has a resolution of 2208x2164 per eye, which isn't native either. It also defaults to 150%, which is 2704x2652.

They simply changed what is considered "default" and "100%". Neither is wrong.

Yep, we're talking approx here. It's not possible in SteamVR to set a square resolution.   The G2 also 'defaults' to 150%, and that makes it 3884x3792, which is equivalent to the 'old' 320%!

Does the 4th pinned comment in Karls video answer your G1 query?

Can't see what that comment is, sorry.

The MRTV video that Krupi links too also outlines the answer to your original question. The G1 incorrectly reported res to SteamVR , see around 1:34. Case closed I think.....

Ok, so that's what I said a long time ago here.  If the G2 is correct, then the G1 must have been wrong!

However, that doesn't explain why the G1 was 'corrected' to 100% not long after launch.  Initially, it was 188% for 'native' AFAIR, then it settled on 100%.  So, still a mystery.

You find it very hard to agree a simple point don't you? 😉 OK, yes yes you were right, better?

Anyway, I'm happy I now understand.

I get the logic but running at 100% in the G2 should in my mind look a more significant jump over a G1 at 100% than it does. Plus going above 100 in the G1 never had the impact of going from 50 to 100 in the G2, assuming 50 G2 = 100 G1 in terms of resolution

No, I don't have that difficulty.  There is nothing simple about this point as you can see from pages on here, and many comments all over the internet.

I'm glad you understand it, but many don't. The whole thing about the G1 now having been misreporting resolution for over a year and a half, is something that just just come to light in the last few days.  If it is true, then fine, we can run with that, but as you can see, most people on this thread are running at 50% thinking that is the correct value for their G2, and they are going to get a shock when they try out the 'correct' 100%!

Personally, I see the same impact going from 50 to 100 on G2 as I did on G1 going from 100 to 200. I always used 200% on my G1 for everyday use.

An official statement by HP clarifying everything regarding G1 and G2 in terms of resolution settings would be nice.

Interesting, do you find the G2 better at 100 than the G1 at 200 on the assumption they should be similar resolutions if the theory about the g1 being labelled wrong is correct?

Because I sold my G1 about 4 weeks ago, I'm working on memory, but I don't find the image quality on the G2 to be any better than the G1. My gut feeling is that the G2 at 100 is the same as the G1 at 200.  I currently run my G2 at 100% in everyday use.

That would be nice, unfortunately they can't even tell people in Europe when there preordered G2 is going to arrive...

I don't expect it to arrive this year now, which means if a certain political event in Britain beginning with B comes to be I will get hitched with an import Tax...

Fitting way to end 2020 at least.

The first few months of pre-orders arrived in the UK last week from SystemActive.  Did you order from them?

What where did you read that!!! Please link.

I have been in the dark for the last two months!

It is pretty galling seeing people who pre-ordered months after me or even just happen to find it in a local shop playing with it.

Right now I just have my fingers crossed that it arrives before Boris Johnson and his merry band of numbskulls ruin everything.

Sorry, my profuse apologies. I searched for the Reverb G2 but it actually brought up the G1 which I didn’t initially notice.
Sorry to have got you falsely excited.
Hopefully it’ll be soon though.

I don't know if it's been covered here before, but I tried to google it. Didn't find out. But - those of you who has upgraded from Reverb G1 to G2, was it simply to unplug the G1 and and plug in the G2, or did you have to uninstall any kind of software, remove drivers, remove SteamVr and re-install, and so on? What steps did you have to go through?

I have an HP Reverb now, but hopefully I will get my G2 later today :)

PC: I9 13900K, Asus ROG Strix GeForce RTX 4090 OC, 32 GB RAM@6000Mhz.

Thrustmaster Warthog Hotas. Virpil Base for Joystick. Thrustmaster TPR Pendular Rudderpedals. Realsimulator FSSB-RL MKII ULTRA base + Realsimulator F16SGRH V2 grip

VR: Pimax Crystal, 8KX, HP Reverb G2, Pico 4, Quest 2. Buttkicker Gamer Pro. Next Level Motion Platform V3.

In my case, I didn't reinstall any software. Just plugged the G2 in where the G1 used to be!
