jiri01 Posted April 26, 2020 Posted April 26, 2020 The water effects (waves) has been always very good in DCS. Recently I noticed that there are new offshore effects. You can see now the depth of water and it is realy convincing. I like to just take a helicopter and fly along a coast. To me it is clear that the people behind DCS are dedicated to the product and care about their customers. Otherwise there would not be such free improvements. That is all I wanted to express, Jiri 1

DW2020 Posted April 26, 2020 Posted April 26, 2020 Iam very impressed and hadbt noticed it until recently but now I quite often fly down the coast at low level just to enjoy the wave effect

toni Posted April 28, 2020 Posted April 28, 2020 Will we have a long white stern wake with Supercarrier when setting speed ahead full or flank ?
Bob1943 Posted April 28, 2020 Posted April 28, 2020 Are you talking about "water effects" in the new Open Beta version or the old Stable version?
Northstar98 Posted April 28, 2020 Posted April 28, 2020 Probably 2.5.6 And for the people on stable, anyone want to share some screenshots? Bob1943 Posted April 30, 2020 Posted April 30, 2020 (edited) I only use the stable version. Here is a water sunset shot, plus 2 more along the coast of Dubai. That is pretty tame looking water. I would like to see some breaking surf along the beaches. Maybe the wind setting would impact the water to cause a little more "white water effects" to be visible? Edited April 30, 2020 by Bob1943
Bob1943 Posted April 30, 2020 Posted April 30, 2020 (edited) Well, I answered my own question. Yes, cranking up the wind setting makes a big difference. Here is the same location with 25 knots of wind blowing into the beach. That kicked up the surf. However, there is still no 'Foaming water" right at the water-beach interface to break up that "sharp" line where water meets land. I also noticed that you can see the "mesh" lines in the white surf in the lower right quadrant of the picture. Edited April 30, 2020 by Bob1943
jiri01 Posted May 1, 2020 Author Posted May 1, 2020 There are couple of pictures of the new water effects.

Jafergon Posted May 1, 2020 Posted May 1, 2020 I really like water. Personally I like oceans a bit less reflecive, mostly with some wind, so I teaked those two lines in waterCommon.hlsl Basically my tweak decreases reflectivity on the oceans depending with stronger winds. It's just a small tweak to fit my personal taste. float windFactor = exp(min(0, 4 - g_WindForce)*0.327); windFactor = lerp(windFactor, 1, exp(-viewDir.w * 0.006)); I also changed the sea colour in the Caucasus map (terrain.cfg.lua inside the caucasus map folder) to be a bit more saturated and blue, also to my personal taste (the Gulf map is encypted, so this is not possible) seaDeepColor = {0.23,0.38,0.68}, seaScatterColor = {0.31,0.72,0.20}, seaOpacity = 3,
Irishlad200000 Posted May 1, 2020 Posted May 1, 2020 Have to agree that DCS has come on in leaps and bounds! I have tried all the sims, including civil ones! The closest one to the real thing is DCS!! I’m a real life light aircraft pilot in Northern Ireland and have an Ex RAF trainer, Thruster T-600N Sprint. It’s not a jet, but a rugged STOL prop! Handles a little like the A10 with no load! YouTube WeePilot https://m.youtube.com/channel/UCKnkHsPp2MhuK-sSMEencCQ 2
