truebrit Posted April 26, 2020 Posted April 26, 2020 I have just bought the F18 and not staying up to date on all things DCS thinking it will be fully functioning soon, and of course the road map says 2021. The idea of putting time into something so incomplete bugs the hell out of me (I'm just weird). So my question is what modules are fully completed I can buy right now? Planes: A-10C/II - FC3 - F/A-18C - F-16c - F-5 - F-15E - F-4E Helicopters: UH-1H Huey - KA-50 Black Shark - AH-64D Maps: Sinai - Normandy 2.0 - Channel - Syria - Persian Gulf - South Atlantic Extras: Supercarrier - WWII Asset Pack PC SPECS: CPU, Intel i5 12600k | MOBO, MSI, MAG 760 TOMAHAWK | MEMORY, Corsair 64GB DDR4 | GRAPHICS CARD, RTX 4070 SUPER | PSU, 850W | Flight Stick, Logitech X-56 | Rudder Pedals, Logitech G | O/S, Windows 10, 64bit | Storage Drives, 2GB M.2 | MONITOR, ASUS TUF Gaming 2560X1440 180Hz
cthulhu68 Posted April 26, 2020 Posted April 26, 2020 It says "early access" under name of modules on DCS store listing.
razo+r Posted April 26, 2020 Posted April 26, 2020 So uh, there would be A-10C Ka-50 (Black Shark 3 coming) Flaming Cliffs 3 P-51 Bf-109 FW-190D9 Spitfire L-39 F-86 Mig-15 F-5E Partially complete MiG-21 (Getting cockpit update) SA-342 (Getting flight model update and maybe multicrew) Mi-8 (Maybe multicrew coming) UH-1 (Maybe multicrew coming) Mirage (?) AJS-37 (Somewhat complete) Fw-190A8 (Somewhat complete) CEII (?) YaK-52 (?) I-16 (?) JF-17 (Somewhat complete)
randomTOTEN Posted April 26, 2020 Posted April 26, 2020 Stick with the F/A-18C, you're really enjoy it, even in it's current state.
Evoman Posted April 27, 2020 Posted April 27, 2020 As much time as it has taken me in just practicing at getting good at landing on aircraft carriers and refueling with the Tomcat I have had plenty to do as is without it being fully complete. And recently I was practicing carrier traps with the Hornet and it was taking me a considerable amount of time just because I got so used to the Tomcat. In my view there is still a lot to learn about the Hornet that by the time you think you got every thing down a new feature will be out to learn. Plus I as mentioned carrier capable aircraft require constant practice to stay consistent and qualified. lol
Mikeck Posted April 27, 2020 Posted April 27, 2020 Just because they might improve something or update something doesn’t make it Incomplete. I’d say the Mig-21, Viggen, F-14, F-86, Mig 15 and Mig 19 are all complete. The F-18, AV-8 and Jf-17 are pretty dang close. The F-16 is what I would call “incomplete” as it is missing enough to make it impact my enjoyment

The F-16 is what I would call “incomplete” as it is missing enough to make it impact my enjoyment On the AV8B, it's not even close to being functionally complete. It's a night attack aircraft that's unusable at night, not talking about the ED lighting issues in 2.5.6. The brightness, contrast, etc display controls do nothing. It's basically usable and gets the job done but when half the buttons on the MFD's aren't implemented it is frustrating. I'm not talking about IFF or some classified system, I'm talking about having the ability to filter the RWR, it has the buttons to do so....they're for looks only. The targeting pod has bare minimum features, basic things like the laser spot track doesn't even work, so you're required to use the DMS to find a LST. As you said it's not enough to make it not fun to fly but it's lacking in a lot of areas.
WinterH Posted April 27, 2020 Posted April 27, 2020 Only look at the oldest ED modules if you want something really complete. Like A-10C, Ka-50 etc. Though they are both soon getting upgraded versions as a new module of sorts, the current versions we have are as complete as you'll get anything in DCS. F-18 isn't pretty dang close, but it is somewhat enjoyable. MiG-21 had of the more disastrous patches that seem to plague it every once in a while, with it's flight model having siginificantly changed again (bugs me to no end how that happens to a 6 years old module that is coded by a then active duty MiG-21Bis pilot), lost all force feedback features for FFB users like me, has her radar causing big lag spikes etc. What I consider fully complete are: - A-10C - Ka-50 - FC3 - L-39 - P-51D - Bf-109K4 - Fw-190D9 - MiG-15Bis - F-86F In my opinion a rough list of "almost fully complete, and enjoyable as such" modules would include: - Viggen - Despite being very new, JF-17 is pretty close with some bugs to iron out - UH-1 (almost fully and totally complete, but engine heat damage stuff isn't fully there as far as I recall, also it's getting multicrew support) - Mi-8, apart from not having multicrew we can call this complete - I-16 - C-101 - F-14 has some radar features getting added, and it will have F-14A added soon, along with AI assets, but apart from those she's at a very good place, and is probably one of the most enjoyable modules right now - F-5E - MiG-21Bis when it isn't broken... - Spitfire IX - Fw-190A8 The rest, except F-16 which I don't have and refuse to buy, are all still enjoyable if one could accept them for what they are with a few shortcomings, not everything needs to be perfect after all. Wishlist: F-4E Block 53 +, MiG-27K, Su-17M3 or M4, AH-1F or W circa 80s or early 90s, J35 Draken, Kfir C7, Mirage III/V DCS-Dismounts Script
