Bob Morton Posted May 13, 2020 Posted May 13, 2020 Hi - when I land on the carrier I go to the F10 map and click on the carrier to see its heading. That way I can set my HSI to have a line for the heading. However, if the carrier is heading 100, i should probably not be flying to the carrier at heading 100 and I think there needs to be an offset for the slanted deck. What is that offset?? Thanks. Baaz Posted May 13, 2020 Posted May 13, 2020 9 degrees is the offset. Subtract 9 from the carriers BRC to get final.
Swift. Posted May 13, 2020 Posted May 13, 2020 Also dont forget that the F10 map gives you true heading, but aircraft operate in magnetic 476th Discord | 476th Website | Swift Youtube Ryzen 5800x, RTX 4070ti, 64GB, Quest 2
Razor18 Posted May 13, 2020 Posted May 13, 2020 9 degrees is the offset. Subtract 9 from the carriers BRC to get final. But you shouldn't set it as BRC. So the initial and the dwonwind side of your "traffic pattern" should be paralell with the BRC, not the canted final heading. Also, if you put your HSI in the right DDI, then above the CRS degree setting in the right bottom corner you will always see, how far are you from the BRC line. (On left DDI it is masked by the Advisory line, even if is empty). Helps you to position yourself on downwind to proper distance at the Abeam.

I always used the left DDI for the HSI so far and didn't miss that offset feature. I recogniced it for the first time by watching Wags' SC Case 1 Recovery Video today:  [Modules] A-10C, A-10C II, AH-64D, F-4E, F-14A/B, F-16C, F/A-18C, FC3, Ka-50, P-51D, UH-1H, CA, SC [Maps] PG, NTTR, Normandy, Sinai, Syria, TC [OS] Windows 11 Pro [PC] MSI Pro Z790-A, i9-13900K, 128 GB DDR5, RTX 4090 24 GB GDDR6X, 2 x SSD 990 PRO 2 TB (M.2), Corsair 5000D Airflow, HX1500i, H150i RGB Elite, Acer X28, TM HOTAS Warthog (Grip@WarBRD Base), MS SW FFB2, Thrustmaster TFRP, TrackIR 5 & TrackClip Pro [Checklists] A-10C, F-16C, F/A-18C, AH-64D, Ka-50, UH-1H
victorlima01 Posted May 13, 2020 Posted May 13, 2020 I think most rw hornet/rhino drivers will leave HUD on left DDI and HSI on right DDI or MPCD
Bob Morton Posted May 14, 2020 Author Posted May 14, 2020 Thanks guys. When landing on a airfield there is also some magnetic deviation which means I can’t trust the number on the airfield to set my BRC on my HSI (I.e. the heading line on my HSI). I noticed that on some tutorial YouTube videos a presenter used a tool in the f10 map to draw a line parallel to the runway and thereby get the right heading for the runway. How do I determine the right angle for the BRC for runways? Thanks!!
