So the Forestall was supposed to be "finished" but delayed to not "step on the super carrier sales toes"

Well the SC is already a discount sale item so?

When we gonna get some of that sweet oil burning, Bridle Catcher Sponson action?

Crazy how long we have waited for the Forrestal, especially considering it's not going to have the same features as the SC...

Maybe, but it's worth remembering that the Forrestal is only part of a module, which has/will offer up multiple versions of an aircraft and which has things no other module currently has (multicrew AI, working multicrew), all for basically the same price as the others.

If it were a paid module/addon, then I could concede your point. However ...

It's seeming like the big issue is the things ED is futzing with on the Supercarrier is making a moving target for finishing the Forestall.

I don't understand how between official 3rd party and unofficial mod developers (which check out the C-130 and Goshawk projects) ED is still so fixated on being in control of everything and changing things with seemingly short or no notice to their development partners. DCS just seems to be becoming less and less modular.

Are they?  Doesn't seem they've touched it since release. Not stealing their thunder made a certain amount of sense then since they were trying to sell it as something new,  but hard to see it would matter now.

I don't understand where this "ED blocks Forrestal release" stuff is coming from. Is there even the slightest trace of evidence for this? Is the idea that between fixing/improving a ton of stuff on one of the most complex DCS modules and making three variants of the A Heatblur is pushing their carrier down the priority list so unreasonable? I'd rather have HB work more on the Tomcat then on the Forrestal which IMO brings little to DCS given the superb carriers we already have.

It actually adds quite a lot if they calibrate the IFLOLS (or whatever system is used on the older Forrestal) specifically for the Tomcat so the hook-to-ye distance is correct, have working ACLS and proper (visible) night lighting. It's also a smaller CV than the THR subclass presenting an additional challenge. Overall I find it pretty essential together with the A-6E and KA-6D AI for the entire Tomcat ecosystem and experience. There's a LOT of cool stuff, missions and scenarios you can do with all of those assets.

Has nothing to do with ED, guys. SlyFa is right, we just had to push it back on the schedule. Once you start moving things around, it ain't easy to get them back on track, but it is soon next on the list. It will become one of the priorities in the new year and definitely before release, and since we had it close to finished already, that won't take that long. We just need to get there is all.

I may kindly suggest: always assuming the worst or looking at ED for blame, is assumptious. And while that is your right to be, I kindly suggest that you can always openly ask us. There's nothing we have to hide and won't share (within the scope of normal business practices, of course).

ED is doing a lot to get their stuff done, and we are doing a lot to get our stuff done. Sometimes that helps mutually, sometimes that blocks mutually, that's just the way of things. But in this case it has nothing to do with why we didn't finish up on the carrier yet. All it is, is working down a list because we had to reshuffle priorities previously. 🙂

Come on someone from Heatblur has directly said either here or on Reddit that The rollout of supercarrier directly affected the code already written for the forestall, and that their changes were not complete. It was some time in the summer I believe.

Basically that it was pushed back in the schedule in direct connection to the new Supercarrier code meaning big rewrites to Forestal, that since supercarrier wasn't finished yet couldn't get started on until ED sorted some stuff out and ever got around to documenting it for their 3rd party partners.

Which tends to be a through line of every long standing issue it seems, Missile function, Drag on loaded ordinance, almost half a year reworking the lighting that was dropped in everyones lap in 2.5.6, weird He said/she said issues about who's responsibility it was to make the tomcat work with Supercarrier, Who's job it is to make Multiplayer crew ops work, as well as a litany of "they haven't told us how to do that yet" issues. As well as the "We don't actually know what build is going out in the patches until after people complain, we tell them their wrong, and THEN discover the patch isn't what it was supposed to be."

Sorry, but it's not an assumption to look down at how ED has been doing things when Heatblur themselves so regularly directly state it's ED's fault for a lot of things.
