Admiral189 Posted October 11, 2020 Author Posted October 11, 2020 The less the better Looney. For instance i use 3DS MAX 2017 to create models. If 3ds max is lagging while working on a model. It's probably because the model has way too many poly's!! WIthin 3ds max you can reduce the polys but it also reducing the appearance of the model. I can tell you also the models in Sketchup have a lott.
Looney Posted October 11, 2020 Posted October 11, 2020 Thanks Admiral, I'm not trying to steal your thunder, just want some more info before dipping a toe in the mod making business :). Going to use your ships in a large scale exercise campaign I'm making for the wing, thanks for all the hard work! Admiral189 Posted October 11, 2020 Author Posted October 11, 2020 Oh no worries Looney. Have at it. The more of us creating models, the better. Also, as soon as i can get the San Antonio Weapons firing again i will release the update!!
navyBtown Posted October 12, 2020 Posted October 12, 2020 NavyBtown, i got lucky and found the USS FFG-62 Constellation on Sketchup. I converted it already to 3d model. If it can be converted without holes i will convert it at some point. It's on my list. https://3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/model/787807b1-631b-4559-81e4-54b4222d546e/USS-FFG-62-Constellation-class-Guided-Misslie-frigate-FFGX-%E3%82%B3%E3%83%B3%E3%82%B9%E3%83%86%E3%83%AC%E3%83%BC%E3%82%B7%E3%83%A7%E3%83%B3%E7%B4%9A%E3%83%9F%E3%82%B5%E3%82%A4%E3%83%AB%E3%83%95%E3%83%AA%E3%82%B2%E3%83%BC%E3%83%88 WOW, I’m impressed Admiral, it looks just like the 3d model that was used in promoting and final pick model thanks. Thanks for sharing the links that you use to find the ships, I feel like a kid peeking in the window outside of a toy store. I have a bit of a thing for older cold warships then newer ones, so its fun to see if there any there that’s on my bucket list.
Admiral189 Posted October 12, 2020 Author Posted October 12, 2020 Thanks Navy, I have a bundle of older warship models. Tell me what your looking for and i'm sure it's within the pack i have!! WIP!! 2
Admiral189 Posted October 13, 2020 Author Posted October 13, 2020 Hey Guys, I've placed the link for the updated San Anotonio. I've found that static objects will float in some areas on the fligt and not in others. So you may just have to move it fwd or aft. I also included a static S_70B_Seahawk helo that was requested. Let me know how it goes!!
El Phantasmo Posted October 13, 2020 Posted October 13, 2020 Is the seahawk a standalone mod or does it need to be placed together with the San Antonio?
Admiral189 Posted October 13, 2020 Author Posted October 13, 2020 It's just a standalone model! It actually looks better on the carriers.
navyBtown Posted October 13, 2020 Posted October 13, 2020 Thanks, man, I will keep that in mind. I don't want to give you a list not until you get caught with what you're working on and fixing right now, also I want to wait and see what the third-party devs and ED will bring out for AI ships. If you look at the vacant model's list sofar only RAZBAM is planning on making a lot of them but I'm a wait and see kind of old salt then listen to scuttlebutt. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=4076891#post4076891
RustyGunner Posted October 13, 2020 Posted October 13, 2020 Admiral, tried the new collision model today. Unfortunately, this collision model makes the San Antonio unusable on my system (4.6 GHz machine, 32 GB ram, 1080Ti). The fps are running from 7 to 42 with an estimated average of 15. It's a very jerky pan doing a 360 around the ship. The San Antonio model, with no collision model added, gives a fps of 70 to 95 with an estimated average of 83. Something in that new collision model isn't playing fair. BTW: the test was conducted in the Caucasus ocean. No land in sight and no other ships/planes around. I didn't try testing any statics on the deck due to the frame rate issue. Hope this can be sorted out. Rusty
Admiral189 Posted October 13, 2020 Author Posted October 13, 2020 Hey Rusty, it runs fine on mine and i have 32 gigs also and gtx 670. Also, I run Nvidia on performance and not let the program decide. Another thing you can try is turn your settings down on DCS. I run mine at medium. If you run it at High it may cause lag. You know i did a test with just no collision model but everything falls through.. I also tried just putting a collision on the flight deck but its invisible in game. What i can try is create a double flight deck and add a collision. I ran a lot of scenarios and what i found was if i raised the ship out of the water the statics aligned pretty good. I have multiple collisions that i can let you try if you like. Keep in mind without the collision it may or may not take damage. You are running the new .edm with the new collision right? Let me know and i will pass it on to you. I haven't heard of anyone else having issues yet. Navy, i've been watching Razbam also. I see they have a few ships coming out as well. I don't think DCS will put out anything else in the near future. A lot of those models existed during the 2.5.4 version and i still have them.
Admiral189 Posted October 13, 2020 Author Posted October 13, 2020 Oh, i forgot to mention i found some hull numbers finally that are Realistic so I will be adding them to the Kidd.
El Phantasmo Posted October 13, 2020 Posted October 13, 2020 It's just a standalone model! It actually looks better on the carriers. I've placed the Seahawk inside Mods>aircraft>S_70B_Seahawk and I am still not seeing it under the static helicopter list.
El Phantasmo Posted October 13, 2020 Posted October 13, 2020 Nevermind. I found it listed under structures and not helicopters.
RustyGunner Posted October 14, 2020 Posted October 14, 2020 Admiral, I fully realize that a collision model is needed for statics to sit on the deck and for the ship to take damage. I only ran a test with and without the collision model to see what change in fps would result. The previous models for the San Antonio did not cause me concern as I never noticed "choppy" performance while looking at the ship from different angles. As another reference not reported in my first post is that the earlier San Antonio with the first "double hull" model released gave better fps performance. It ran around 37 to 84 fps with an estimated average of 50. Seemed smooth to me so never gave fps a thought. Checked static objects on the new model and see they now sit Ok deck height wise. Nice! As you noted objects will link to the bottom of the ship if on the port side from roughly the port white line to the edge of the landing deck. I like the white ship numbers and lighter colored bridge windows changes made. However, not keen on that bright red luna light shinning near the front deck gun. It's visible during daylight hours. If I am the only one reporting this fps issue move on to other tasks. I will be happy with the previous San Antonio and first "double hull collision" model. BTW: The static S-70B Seahawk is a nice static object. Keep those ships coming. Very much appreciate your work. Rusty
Lazy-1962 Posted October 14, 2020 Posted October 14, 2020 The same issue with FPS performance as Rusty has.
Admiral189 Posted October 14, 2020 Author Posted October 14, 2020 (edited) Thanks Guys for the feedback. Let me take a look at the suspect Collision model. I forgot to mention the static helo was in structures.. I'm trying to get it into helicopters. Also, the LCU is working but there's an invisible collision at the bow. So there's no way to drive onboard. Still working the issue! Edited October 14, 2020 by Admiral189
Admiral189 Posted October 16, 2020 Author Posted October 16, 2020 So i figured out the Issue. San Anotnio's file size is just too big so i will work on another model and try to reduce the size as much as possible. May take some time so please patient! Will keep you all posted.. I'm nearly complete with the USS Kidd so you may see her sooner than later.
Admiral189 Posted October 18, 2020 Author Posted October 18, 2020 (edited) Progress!!!! I added a welldeck to her and she's less than half the file size she use to be. Edited October 18, 2020 by Admiral189 1
robert.grove Posted October 19, 2020 Posted October 19, 2020 Hi, Admiral I don't see the link for the S-70B mod could you point me to where it is?
Admiral189 Posted October 19, 2020 Author Posted October 19, 2020 Hey Robert, I placed a separate link on the first page. Just place it in the C:\Users\####\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\mods\aircraft
Oban Posted October 21, 2020 Posted October 21, 2020 Have you seen this, and is it doable? https://www.cgtrader.com/3d-models/watercraft/military/usa-navy-ticonderoga-class-guided-missile-cruiser-aegis-combat AMD Ryzen 9 7845HX with Radeon Graphics 3.00 GHz 32 GB RAM 2 TB SSD RTX 4070 8GB Windows 11 64 bit
Admiral189 Posted October 21, 2020 Author Posted October 21, 2020 Hello Oban, yes, it is doable. I have this model also. I started working on it a while back but I didn't finish it. It would be a little time consuming because of the VLS Launchers. I wasn't too motivated to create it because DCS already has a version in-game. 1
