P.Carrasco =Keep Flying= Posted September 10, 2020 Posted September 10, 2020 Hello everyone. I noticed that in the last update the radar is unable to acquire a target over 36 ~ 38 nm. Above that distance he cannot lock on the target, he simply loses the lock. Playing in MP right after the update I noticed the difference and I had reports that something on the f-16's radar was also different, as I haven't learned the f-16 yet, I can't say anything about the difference on the radar. I was realizing that the F-16s were able to fire their 120c's at a distance greater than 36 ~ 38mn, playing in MP with few pilots I was able to confirm, that while I was at FL45 at 1.02 Mach, I was only able to lock the target at 36mn and fire my 120c, the f-16 was the FL 40 and had already made the 15 °, 20 ° curve that we do after shooting, I was in doubt if he already fired? Confirmation soon came when I fired my 120c, the warning of my RWR sounding a missile radar approaching ... the FL 45 with little air is not possible to make a quick evasive maneuver. As soon as the alarm went off I already knew "I'm dead" Has anyone else noticed the difference on the A-A radar? I only saw reports here on the forum about ground radar ....:joystick: Please comment. Swift. Posted September 10, 2020 Posted September 10, 2020 Haven't noticed this myself except for when the brick timeout was inadvertently set too low, check that you have that at an appropriate length for the given azimuth and bars 476th Discord | 476th Website | Swift Youtube Ryzen 5800x, RTX 4070ti, 64GB, Quest 2
Ramsay Posted September 10, 2020 Posted September 10, 2020 H Has anyone else noticed the difference on the A-A radar? I only saw reports here on the forum about ground radar ....:joystick: I haven't noticed a change in A-A range, though my focus has been on testing A-G. Please comment. Re: F-16 vs Hornet The Hornet has a larger radar cross section than the F-16, making the Hornet easier to detect/lock at range. The F-16 has less drag and can usually launch the AIM-120 at higher speeds/ranges than the Hornet. "Winning" usually comes down to SA and tactics and making your opponent "waste" their shots. i9 9900K @4.8GHz, 64GB DDR4, RTX4070 12GB, 1+2TB NVMe, 6+4TB HD, 4+1TB SSD, Winwing Orion 2 F-15EX Throttle + F-16EX Stick, TPR Pedals, TIR5, Win 11 Pro x64, Odyssey G93SC 5120X1440
Sandman1330 Posted September 10, 2020 Posted September 10, 2020 I've noticed it. You can maintain a track file in TWS, but as soon as you try and go to STT, the lock drops within a second or two at distance, and not until within 30 miles or so can it hold the lock. I was wondering if it was a rudimentary implementation of jamming...? dorianR666 Posted September 10, 2020 Posted September 10, 2020 yes. it often happens to me that in RWS, each sweep detects the target - yet when i lock it with STT, it instantly enters MEM mode and loses the lock. repeatedly. its not because of ecm, targets didnt have them. it doesnt make much sense to me - why is the target reliably visible to RWS (on each sweep) but completely invisible to STT? :joystick: CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 1600X GPU: AMD RX 580
Preendog Posted September 10, 2020 Posted September 10, 2020 Don't know if this is the problem, but check that the radar doesn't switch PRF when going to STT. HIGH generally (always, in my testing) detects best, so if it switches to MED in STT, it may immediately lose the lock. This is especially true for hot targets.
P.Carrasco =Keep Flying= Posted September 11, 2020 Author Posted September 11, 2020 To amplify the radar distance I got to test at 1 bar (1b / 1) and 20 ° of scan, using the correct height of the target, theoretically this amplifies the signal, but even so when it passes to STT the target is lost. .. Shiroka Posted September 11, 2020 Posted September 11, 2020 Was happening to me too (losing lock after a couple of seconds in STT). I fixed it when I switched from interleaved to just either Med or Hi
dundun92 Posted September 13, 2020 Posted September 13, 2020 The radar is likely changing PRF to MED when entering STT, ive noticed it doing that now Eagle Enthusiast, Fresco Fan. Preendog Posted October 13, 2020 Posted October 13, 2020 HI PRF is always better unless they changed something in the last update. Sometimes as much as double range on hot targets and equal on cold. Look up/down also has no effect whatsoever.
falcon_120 Posted October 16, 2020 Posted October 16, 2020 Haven`t tested it myself, but in any case 36-38 nm seems quite right to lock a F16 size target. The F16 radar should be affected by the same behavior if not even more pronounced. It's been quite agreed that F18 and F16 radar are/were overperforming at EA release, and getting detection and locking distances close to what you'd expect from an F15C Eagle. Maybe they are revisiting this.
Preendog Posted October 17, 2020 Posted October 17, 2020 Plug for radar range tests for F-18 in DCS: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=267636 I do this as PSA for poor souls who use MED.
