How is it now?

Who cares, we have a good aircraft now where we can expect continuous support and bug fixes, the F-4 by Heatblur 🙂

Joking aside, I haven't checked yet. I am happy that ED finally adressed this, but ... seven years... boy, am I happy that ED did not do the Phantom.

Here is what devs implemented with this update:

Quote

Only specific ground radars will be omitted when Search is disabled, and only these radars will be shown when Search is engaged:

  • Radars with "SAM SR" attribute, but without "SAM TR" - several S-300, NASAMS SR, etc.
  • EWR_1L13, EWR_55G6, FPS-117, FPS-117 Dome.

I've just tested it and it seems to work as devs expect it to work.

Just to add up: In search mode ground radars show up but nothing else.. with no search mode everything but those show up .. if you press search you wont even get a launch warning

Edit: Wait.. so i have to chose if i want an Air SA or a ground SA?

My understanding is that the correct behavior of the Search mode is as something of a declutter option, to show or remove search radars (i.e. early warning, AWACS, etc.), rather than toggling between these and threat radars. Threat radars (either surface or aerial) should always be visible.

I'm unable to check, but it should not be true according to what ED said. Only low priority radars (search, EW) should be omitted with search on, not all ground radars. You should still see track radars , i.e. the ones that can lock you up.

I would still think that the most reasonable way for this to work is to declutter the display from low priority radars with search off, not just switch between the views, but it's a huge improvement, and is basically fine in practice.

It is true, however. If you switch on search mode, only search radars show up.

I'd just say: don't leave it on. Switch it on briefly to get SA of search radars if you really need to. It's a completely reasonable way to implement and use this mode, unlike before the fix.

*Bumping*

MP environments: F5-RWR doesnt show anything, wether in search mode or not, wether ground or aerial radars, wether searching or tracking. Just tested it on a SA-6 site, got suspicious after being killed by a Mig-29 a week ago, the pilot wondered about my apparent ignorance of being locked for 5 minutes without any reactions on my part.
