Dear ED Team,

just a suggestion / idea:

Given that many older modules (basically everything thats not Hornet, Viper or SuperCarrier , i.e. F-5, Helicopters ,Yak-52, Combined Arms , FC3 aircraft etc..) currently receive very little to no bugfixing

much to the frustration of their customers, how about this:

Designate one your (ED's) modules as "legacy" module of the month and set aside two , one or even just half a work day of your developement team's capacity to tackle the reported bugs for that module.

Just do whatever you can in the assigned time. Some smaller things can probably fixed completely and bigger things , well just do what you can and then carefully document what still needs to be done for the next time.

Then rotate to the next Aircraft in the next month/update. Once you been through all your modules , begin again at the first one and pick up whats left of bugs or couldnt be completed the last time.

So with each monthly DCS update, one module would receive some attention/bug fixing. Believe me, this would do A LOT for the customers of that product and regain trust in product sustainment. You could even publish the order of modules in advance so everyone had something to look forward to.

Plus you would likely slowly regain income from people that currently say, "I m not longer buying your stuff until you fix the my old module XYZ".

Its not about how much bugfixing can be done in the assigned time in one month, its about that something does get done and that it gets done for every module when it gets its turn. Reliably.

Anyway its just an idea of mine.

Kind regards,

Save your facepalms for better opportunies. If you actually read my post I wrote "just an idea" and not "ED you have to do this" .

They can decide for themselves what do with it.

Besides, now matter how long you are in business, its good to keep an open mind and not get stuck in the line of

"we know everything there is to know and we have already thought of every good idea there ever could be" - thinking..

Or in other words...ED is a small Software House within a niche market...is it impossible to believe that amongst the tens of thousands of us out here...there's no-one amongst us with experience of managing, bigger business units, larger projects, more staff, more outcome-critical environments?

Hey guys, very good suggestion, although we generally already do it, and maybe not so much advertise it. Only because a month can be restrictive, some fixes are hours, some are longer. But we do generally pinpoint individual modules for special attention when we can.

I will talk to the team and see if we can make something more formal with user input on biggest issues, etc. Thanks!

How about making sure that a small number of fixes and updates are in by the end of the month for every "legacy" module? That way all modules are kept in good condition all year round :)

That should be doable unless the staff is overextended. I get that there is a lot going on, but legacy or not these modules are still being sold att full price and should be supported as much as a newer module. I would not be happy to wait 12 months for F-5E fixes because it is not "legacy module of the month" for another year...

I do like to see a "legacy of the month" module, but it should be a complement to the fixes. A new trailer, raise awareness of the module for prospective buyers and at the same time offer something a bit bigger update-wise. Maybe a texture overhaul or new sounds etc.

Hi Nineline,

appreciate that you’re being open-minded towards this and thank you very much for forwarding it to the team!

I made a somewhat similar, tangential request in the Yak-52 section...

Suggestion: can the ED team do some grooming of the backlog to make all these little, "quality of life" bug fixes for the more "simple" problems a priority? Maybe make every second or third sprint cycle about these types of bugs - at least some of them? Continually plucking low hanging fruit leads to an empty tree.

They aren't sexy bugs and revisiting old code sucks sometimes but it's got to be done and they really do lift the spirits of the userbase when fixed. I know in my case fixing ADF in the Yak really made my day/week/month. I may have a party when the Channel map gets above 0 degrees. smile.gif

Besides, fixing these types of bugs will get rid of lots of continual whining on the forum. Ha![/Quote]

I think what we'd all like is at least a little indication that our favourite modules are getting a bit of love from time to time.
