Id like to buy my friends modules as gifts for Christmas..

Has anyone done this and can give me feedback?

Id like to buy them now during the sale, and pass them on at Christmas.

How does the gifting process work? If I buy them now, can I pass them on later? or is it instant?

If I buy them now, do they receive them now?

Thanks..

I have only gifted 3 modules so far to a friend because i bought some bundle deals but already had some of the modules. As long as the license is not activated on an account you can give them to another account. You need to visit the support page and do it with an official ticket and it will take some time (couple of hours to a couple of days) till the license is transferred. If it's ok for you that the people receive it couple of days before or after christmas i see no problem at all. It's just that i don't know how the holidays will interfere with the support workflow.

Yeah if you click buy as gift, all you need to do is provide either their username (on the main ED site, not the forums AFAIK) or their email address. I think you can write a message.

So if they have no DCS username they can't be gifted?

Also, do you get 'miles' points for gifting?

Pretty sure you get miles just by purchasing, and yes they need an account set-up on the main DCS World website.

Ah, so thats that- it can't be done.. They don't have an account yet. I was hoping to make it a surprise.

make them practice with SU-25, TF-51, or mod A-4. that way they can see if their rig can handle it.

They have top end systems. We play squad together, and they recently got VR. I wanted to send them both a copy of the F18, but there doesn't seem to be a way of doing it.

Since ED went keyless, purchases were tied to accounts, I think you now even need an account to play DCS (certainly if you want modules) - you can still surprise them as when they make their account, unless they physically check on their profile, they won't know that you've gifted them the Hornet until they fire up DCS.

Here is another one of the many options you probably have:

@ StevanJ If your friend does not have an account yet - Why not create a NEW ACCOUNT for them? (This would be a pain in the butt if you have more than 2 friends. LoL)

  1. You can Register for another DCS account using a new or spare e-mail address that you already own.
  2. Purchase and activate the F/A-18 or gift it if you want to see how that works.
  3. Give your friend a card or a book about the F/A-18 and include the Eagle Dynamics User ID and Password you created for him.
  4. Your new best friend can change the registration e-mail and password to his own once he accepts the gift.

  • Do not own:  | F-15E | JF-17 | Fw 190 A-8 | Bf 109 |
  • Hardware:  [ - Ryzen7-5800X - 64GB - RX 6800 - X56 HOTAS Throttle -  WINWING Orion 2 F16EX Grip - TrackIR 5 - Tobii 5C - JetPad FSE - ]

They can also change the username too if they go to the main DCS page -> Profile, you can change the log in, it's only the forums where you need an admin/mod to sort it.

So OP, that's one solution simply make a new account for them, and then once they've got it, they can change all the details.

Well, if they have Steam, I think you can also gift them on Steam. It comes with its own peculiarities and you don't get any miles (AFAIK), but I use it and it works fine for me.

Yeah, i knew about the Steam version, but i wanted miles, and i also wanted them to use the standalone, as it seems to run better on every one of my systems..

Thanks for the heads up though..
