sorry i missed you had 32 GB. my bad. it would not hurt anything to set another 16 GB of pagefile. you can always go back. put in the settings to manage yourself and put 16384 in each box and restart. back in the days of low memory computers the rule of thumb was to do pagefile 3x system RAM. not necessary to do that these days with cheap RAM.

OK, I put 32768 values for min/max and make a test.

Results are worst... now even my GPU is struggling and CPU is as earlier.

For this test I also deleteed and recomplied shaders.

CPU was @ 4.9GHz

@gorzastyYou have the newest W10 and a recent NVIDIA graphics driver. Please ensure Windows GPU scheduling is turned OFF.

I see you have 2 HDDs in your PC. Ensure Windows isn't using one of them to store its pagefile. Open "cmd" program, and launch the following command:

wmic pagefile list /format:list

Weird, I can't find the setting page listed in your link.

Only this...

@Sr.This GPU Scheduling thing was introduced last summer. You need an up-to-date Windows + an up-to-date GPU driver to have this option available. Your GPU driver is too old for this (mine too, by the way, but I'm OK with it: if it's not broken, don't change it).

Or as I always tell my techs... If it ain't broke... don't break it.

I've found I have much better performance with the older drivers than bleeding edge updated ones, on my 1080ti.

I think I broke my last post, so I will summarize again.  My apologies for the duplicates.

I turned off Shader Cache even though I have zippy SSD's, and this cleared up some major stuttering.  Did some research on deferred shading which is used in DCS, and then I decided to test performance without any MSAA or Anisotripic filtering (anything that touches textures).  I got extremely good frame rates and no stuttering at 4k.  I highly recommend you try these settings.

BTW, can someone tell me how to screenshot the entire NCP in one go?

In Game turn shadows to low or off... also if you want to both improve performance and gain quality, set texture filtering to High Performance; also you seem to be running your G2 at 60hz is that a deliberate choice ?

@speed-of-heat Sorry for the confusion.  I don't have a G2.  Yes, you can get a big boost from having shadows off, lowering textures, lowering resolution, but I am showing that even with those settings, I can get picture perfect frame rates over Syria with no stuttering AND it still looks good.

My monitor is an Asus PB287Q.  It's a very nice 4k monitor with a 60hz clock that reports it can do 144 hz (thru compression?).  With all vsync turned off, this card can push 144 fps on Syria (not over the cities 70-80fps).  With the shader cashe issue "minimized" by those settings DCS is smooth as silk and visually pleasing.  The only drawback is that screenshots don't pick up the FXAA because it's post processing.  You need to go windowed and do alt-printscrn to pick up the FXAA.  However, I run at 4k, so my screenshots are too big to share now, so no loss.

If I were inclined to dig deeper into the shader cache issue, I would put the shader cache back ON (on disk) and turn on resource monitor.  Then do some black box testing.  Turn on and off MSAA, SSAA, Anisotropic filtering, Trilinear Optimization, AA Transparancy, and AA Gamma correction.  The culprit(s) should cause some heavy drag on the disk.

Guys please. This is threat that I created to get some help. Can you talk about your monitors somewhere else please? Don't spam here.

Does anyone have any idea how to help? Looking forward for some moderator to clean this thread please. Now it is total mess. @NineLine?

Hello

After many months I decided to check how is DCS doing with its performance. Is it any better? Got new hardware so I gave it a shot.

Run my favourite module - Mi-8. Instant action - cold start. Mission start and... reprojection comes in... 30fps. Sh!t

Run FPSVR and see what is going on, and... I don't understand this. GPU is OK. CPU is in trouble, but utilization doesn't hit 30%!

Can anybody tell me what is going on here???

My specs: i5 8600k @4.5GHz, 32GB RAM 3200MHz, GTX 3080, HP Reverb G2 (SS 50%, 60Hz mode)  Last Open beta.

Here is the pic: https://ibb.co/1snLs15

1) make sure your HMD is set to 90hz if you are getting reprojection to 30 that means it’s currently set to 60 hz

2) your CPU utilisation is normal,  as this is functionally a measure of the total capacity of your cpu cores, as dcs will only use 3 or 4 cores at most 30% sounds about right

3) what is your idle time for your cpu, what background processes and services do you have running?

4) I don’t know what your settings are for nvidia, in game or in steam Vr or wmr are, but, check my settings below or Bignewy’s amd they will get you in the ball park. Turning off MSAA  and shadows and mirrors all have big perf impact.

5) turn off HPET, https://silicophilic.com/disabling-hpet-settings/

Thank you

1) Yes my Reverb G2 is running 60Hz because I don't like reprojection. My goal is to reach min 60fps in 60Hz mode. My setup is ok with this in simple missions with few planes, but sometimes DCS behave strange as I wrote about Mi-8 mission.

2) Ok, thank you, so my CPU is OK then.

3) in attachment? In idle my CPU running 1-5%. No special services in background. Is there any report I can post here?

4) in attachment

I know my actual setting are quite high, but It runs OK in most simple mission (stable 60fps). In mission with Mi -8 (cold and dark) only one options can help to have sometimes 60, but not always - shadows off. The rest of the option doesn't matter in this case as I was testing. I will not play DCS without shadows - looks like a game from, 70's then for me.

5) Thank you didn't know that - give it a try

look at my settings for nvidia on the 1080ti and copy them, its in my sig block but some people dont have that switched on

Shadows is literally one of the most expensive things you can do in DCS, turn them down to low or medium... also see my settings for a 3090 you should be able to use them:

you can order your task manager by CPU utilisation, by clicking on CPU and it should put the things using CPU at the top, you have an awful lot of background processes running, most of them will be completely idle and play nice, some will have a way of firing up in the background and eating CPU cycles. though i would bet its mostly shadows and HPET that are your pain ... (that said i am wrong a lot :))

p.s. also on 60Hz the problem is not 60Hz, the problem in general is you will get some instance that will  get some instance that will cause you to increase your frame time above 15 ms or so that will put you into reprojection, this is especially true (at least for me in NOE flying) which means you will get forced into 30Hz... something to think about ...

If Speed of Heat NCP settings don't work for you, try mine. I started with his and wasn't really getting anywhere until I started tweaking them.

Now I am VERY satisfied with the clarity and frame rates I get. For instance, before I tweaked NCP settings I was lucky to get high 20's in Syria and stuck on 30 in Caucuses.

I'm now getting 45 in both, sure there's an occasional stutter in heavily treed area, but it's very brief.

My 1080ti is mildly overclocked to reach about 1950MHZ in game, while still remaining cool/quiet.

I also run the following via PS script. (jury still out on this one)

Get-WmiObject Win32_process -filter 'name = "DCS.exe"' | foreach-object { $_.SetPriority(128) }
Get-WmiObject Win32_process -filter 'name = "vrserver.exe"' | foreach-object { $_.SetPriority(128) }
Get-WmiObject Win32_process -filter 'name = "vrcompositor.exe"' | foreach-object { $_.SetPriority(128) }

That way you don’t have to keep on running the script.

OK, I'm back. I made a lot of tests with different parameters, included yours. After all you have told me now I can barely achieve 60fps in the mission with cold start at Mi8 I wrote about earlier. Still CPU is the bottleneck. In other mission sometimes I have more room and sometimes reprojection is on all the time (heavy one)

60fps is still my target because I really don't like reprojection (45fps at 90Hz or 30fps at 60Hz), so I need to tweak setting to achieve minimum 60fps but it is good to have more - it is obvious.

So, conclusion is - I pass for now with DCS. Maybe I will back in the future when it will be more mature with VR.  60fps in low/mid settings is not for me.

Thank you guys for all your help. Stay high!
