Are there any proper and active chopper only servers out there?

I've been exploring MP the past couple of weeks (usually only play SP, but I thought: hey, lets go totally crazy and try MP again )

 

I was wondering. Are there any active servers out there, with focus on helo OPS?

 

I'm having a hard time finding any. Or are choppers really that unpopular within the MP community?

I saw you posted in this thread... so you were obviously aware of this one:

 

No doubt there are some squad servers, but I've also not found any public ones. I've encountered a lots that have helicopters, but they always seem to be added as an afterthought and don't integrate so well into the mission. And there are a few that seem to have started as helicopter servers, but slowly they start adding AV-8Bs, then A-10s, the F/A-18s and F-16s and slowly it morphs into another jet server again.

 

Anyway, if you find anything good, do report back and let us know. I for one would be curious to know of anything.

Yes, exactly what I encountered as well.. Although most servers provide a great platform for fixed wing OPS, it's kinda annoying to do 2x20nm Huey trips in order to unpack 1 CLTD Hmmwv crate, just to find out it doesn't have any waypoints assigned to it.. and just stand there until it decays out of boredom..

 

Or find out that all available target areas include at least one SA-15 or SA-19..

 

I know I know.. I can just create my own server and I'm in no position to complain or anything. I was just wondering if there is some sort of secret rotorheads MP society I don't know about

Not dedicated, but there are proper helo missions on the Tactical DCS Dynamic PvE server, but only when it runs the caucuses Elbrus mission

The Havoc servers have lots of heli mission tasks to do

check out the Havoc Syria server it has a new heli mission "work for the power company" which is interesting

I was also thinking the same. Came across and old youtube video that talked about this one. Seems to still be online and fairly active.

Has a Heli-first approach with fixed wing only there to support.

I've not tried it yet but will be later tonight.

Look for the Low Level Hell server. It's run by former US Army helo pilots.

There are plenty of servers with helo ops integrated. Check out the Forgotten Server (Vietnam and Coldwar) they often  run missions often where the Helicopters are the focus but often have fixed wing as well. Other servers run the CSAR script  which allows players to conducted Rotary CSAAR rescue when others are shot down.

There's a french server, based around search and rescue and firefighting
it's called "Search and Rescue" if i remember correctly, and has a pretty good simulation of fire spreading, and quite a few options for SAR flights
No combat is included, but it's still pretty fun

Great server for helicopter ops. A mod is needed, but it's worth trying it.

Another recommendable server for chopper guys is this one I came across a few days ago:

 

ROG Charlie Syria

 

It's not a choppers-only server, but choppers can do a lot of useful things there via scripts. The cool thing is that most loads have to be sling-loaded, that adds a nice challenge. It's a PvE server with a persistent mission design, so everything you do (set up SAM sites, take enemy bases and the like) is relevant and will be present when you fly the next day.

 

Lots of missions to do as shown in the F-10 map, but most need some sort of cooperation with fighters and strikers, as the enemy AI will scramble lots of fighters at you, so either built a good SAM screen or have fighter cover at hand.

 

Additionally, there is one CA ground commander and some JTAC slots available for a2g cooperation and coordination.

 

I haven't found any thread here in this forum related to this server, so I have no idea who's responsible for it. I'd like to ask the server admins / mission designers to add more Gazelle L and M slots to the various air bases and FARPS so that two pilots can fly the same variant to team up.

Yet another good heli server is, as the name implies, the "Rotorheads" server.

 

It's persistent PvE and also features a good integration of Combined Arms (four Tac Commander slots), which I think is a core feature of good heli servers (i.e. the air to ground integration). The enemy AI ground units seem quite clever. Very target-rich environment though, needs a dedicated team in the air and on the ground to be successful.
