Imersion Factor; to Makers of Flight Sims

Wondering if this is possible... In BLACKSHARK you can eject and when the pilot lands you can walk around. And the Easter Egg in the A10C Warthog lets you drive a jeep.

Is it not possible to have you start a mission in a psuedo-call room or ready room. And then walk to your aircraft. It would really add to realism to be able to inspect your bird up close. Just as any pilot will (does) do before every flight.

Is there a reason why no one has ever done this in any flight sim. Is it because it's not needed or because its thought to be not wanted.

In a flight sim world little things like that really add to the dynamic of it all. To me, small "enhancements" add to the overall effect. Most sim pilots love dropping bombs, doing high speed yo-yo's, busting tanks, etc. I love all that stuff too, but small things like 'knowing what THAT button does, and THIS button, and NEVER push this red button really gets me excited also.

SOOOOOO... in the next DCS title (which I know I'll buy), is it possible to add the ability to walk to the aircraft?

I fully agree, and as we have seen with the Easter Eggs, on DCS A-10C you can also eject from the plane and board a UAZ.

Would be nice to be able to make the preflight, walk to the airplane, and so.

It would be a nice inmersion addition to this excellent sim.

:)

Here's a great idea, why not add a pistol and a knife for the ejected pilot, self protection is important, especially behind enemy lines. This would be so easy to do, and you could take pot shots at enemy vehicles and become partof the ground war. Baby steps right?

Considering that the ladder was actually part of a pre-beta1 build, and there's already technology in the game for a pilot avatar to walk around and initiate loading into a vehicle then yes, his idea is a very good, immersive, fully technically possible and true to form for a simulator idea when compared to your silly and sarcastic jibe.

Excuse me? I wasn't saying his idea wasn't completely valid, I have already mentioned this exact idea previously. And I was being completely serious as well, no sarcasm intended. Did you see any winks? If you don't like the idea just say so but don't go insulting me for it.

Ooh, i like this suggestion, it really add to the immersion to be able to walk to/from/around your airplane, even more so after a deadly mission if you was able to land a heavily damaged A10C Warthog and being able to step out of the plane (and kiss the ground cuz you are so happy you are alive, lol) and look at the damage :-D

Explosions

Thsi game is as realistic as it can but one thing is really unrealistic. I am talking about explosions.

It is really annoying to send a bomb to tank or gas vehicle and then watch 10 second of smoke coming from the bottom of the vehicle and then see it explode.

I know this is not number 1 on the wish list now but can we expect sometimes in future more realistic explosions?

A suggestion maybe and some brain storming.

Not real sure where this would go.. I'd like to see a Lockon forum and a general DCS forum, so this kinda applies to both.

#1. Cloud shadows.

These could be used by future helicopter players to further mask them with the terrain to help avoid being spotted by A-10's or fast movers.

These also add a sense of realism and are great for graphics.

#2. I would suggest an aircraft or helicopter that is non combative.

The KC-135, or maybe a blackhawk or huey doing "troop" ferry into and out of the combat zone.

This would appeal to those who like civil flight sims and just flying in general without killing or fighting so you would have a broader range of players.

#3. You are doing a hell of a job. Don't stop now. (ED)

Good example of cloud shadows

Cloud shadows were in Black Shark already IIRC, but they didn't always work correctly.

Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two.

Come let's eat grandpa!

Add more targets, like trains, power stations, water plants, ammo dumps, etc. Add a little more strategic layer to mix with the day-to-day CAS roles.

356th Bomber squadron is on a major strike in the north and cannot spare assets, command has asked you to take out the Saab dealership in downtown Tukista where insurgents are retrofetting station wagons as technicals. We are counting on you! :D

More targets is always good.

V-75 SA-2 - At medium and low altitudes the kill radius is about 65 meters and the blast radius for severe damage is 100-120 meters. The maximum blast radius against a high altitude target is approximately 250 meters, due to the rarefied atmosphere.

Not in DCS i guess, it's always 3 meters away and it never kills me...

It would be nice with shadows in cockpit.

Also animated wing flex depending on g force would rock. And wingtip vortices too.

Rain on canopy effect.

Might be hard enough to see targets already, but if this is anything like it is in a real life cockpit, I hope it can be implemented later on. The water streak one(the second one) seems realistic to me for an aircraft. Maybe a little bit of the third one as well.:music_whistling:

Couldn't get any real aircraft cockpit footage to compare it to. All I get is FSX in rainy weather.

Cool affects anyway.

DCS is all about immersion to me and the only place I loose immersion is at mission start.

I'd like to see an ability to create your avatar pilot ... similar to console games which have the ability. i.e. really make my pilot look like me.

Then I would like to have DCS create a digital whiteboard briefing room which all pilots spawn into and stand around to view the mission brief. If any of you have ARMA2, you will recall the opening sequence in the briefing room for the first mission of the campaign. Online whiteboards exist ( http://www.dabbleboard.com/ ) and it would be great if these were integrated into the game for co-op briefings. If not as complex as whiteboards... The Mission Editor could load the details during mission design.

DCS has always been about simulating the high fidelity of the flight combat experience. a little bit of avatar work would go a long way in taking it further for all of us. Imagine spawning into your briefing session, looking at your squaddies avatars in the room - walking to your a10c or ka50 and having a first person animation of you climbing into the pit.
