kaos.dll Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 Hi, after installation of DCS:BS I donot get any Desktop or Startmenu icons... So I tried to launch the DCS.exe manually but nothing happens... Any ideas? Activition was without problems. I tried to reinstall BS, too. Vista Ultimate x86 German with Russian MUI pack installed Maybe a problem with unicode? After changing to the russian MUI the setup was still unreadable for me :/  thanks. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Acedy Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 Try to install and run BS with administrator rights. And if that doesn't work, disable Vista's user account control (UAC) when starting BS for the first time. After that you should be able to activate again. 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] *** SERVMAN SERVER MANAGEMENT MOD V2 FOR DCS:BS V1.0.1 *** *** VERSION FOR FC2 ***
Mxyzpylk Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 (edited) I installed it on Vista Ultimate x64 SP1 and it does work. I already had UAC turned off and just right clicked the set-up file and clicked run as administrator. Loaded fine. Edited November 19, 2008 by Mxyzpylk
kaos.dll Posted November 19, 2008 Author Posted November 19, 2008 Ok I checked the MD5 sum ... files are ok. I will disable UAC and reinstall with admin rights. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Murphyd Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 I installed on Vista x64 Ultimate earlier this evening. I too ran Setup.exe as administrator as it threw an error which I guessed was related to insufficient permissions to install in Program Files (x86). Everything seems to be working fine so far. -- Murphy
kaos.dll Posted November 19, 2008 Author Posted November 19, 2008 after installing without UAC it works... .-) problem solved... [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Prophet Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 Vista users need to understand that they will run into this with just about every game and piece of software out there. Not a fan of UAC myself, so I just disable it. That and the driver signing thing for V64.

kaos.dll Posted November 19, 2008 Author Posted November 19, 2008 BS is the first software with massive UAC problems for me. DTWD Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 Wahoa there, you have to switch UAC off to install/play this game? Are you serious? LOMAC/FC hasn't got a problem with UAC why does BS? This isn't good news. Regards Paul Regards [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

DTWD Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 If you don't know what it is chances are it is on. It's basically the thing that pops up and nags you about everything. Thing is I would rather have the nag than something running when it shouldn't. Regards Paul Regards [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

There are plenty of games that require both UAC to be switched off and the install done under an admin account as well. At least for the install. No big deal from where I sit. Vista Ultimate x86 German with Russian MUI pack installed Maybe a problem with unicode? After changing to the russian MUI the setup was still unreadable for me :/  thanks. For Vista all game icons go in the Games folder that is on the right side of your start menu. Most games in Vista also do not install an item directly on the start menu or on the dektop so as to keep things less cluttered. When you select a game in the games folder it give you links to the developer etc. There is also additional functionality if you right click the icon, depending on what the developer implemented. From what I gather DCS installs a icon for Multiplayer and Singleplayer in the games folder, so if your just trying to launch the .exe file your probably missing the arguments the game needs to launch properly for either of these modes.
