In preparation for the release of the F-16C Viper the DCS CVW-13 Wildcats are setting up the 22d & 23d Fighter Squadron from the 52d Operations Group. We're a Europe based squadron and fly in Central European Time. We also fly the F/A-18C in our VFA-27 squadron and the F-14B in our VF-302 squadron. Even though we have a lot of fun our primary focus is on realistic tactics and procedures. We have a training programme that all pilots go through, the pace of which depends on your skill level when you enter. A squad that was founded flying Russian aircraft exclusively, we have found this harder to maintain in recent times due to the release almost entirely of western airframes, and as such we are open to flying many of those available to DCS, which these days are mostly the F/A-18, AV-8B, AJS-37, Ka-50, Mi8MT and Gazelle. We do retain our original fast-movers the Su-27/33 and Su-25 T and A. We do fly other types as desired in ad-hoc flights. We have members who are located in Europe and North America and we have a dedicated server that is located in Germany.

 

Our regular Sunday squad-flights are held on our own dedicated server and these take place at 20:00 UK time throughout the year. The dedicated-server is available to anyone to use at all other times of the year, and we welcome requests for specific mission if desired, to use during non-squad running.

 

Our comms are via Discord and in-game we use SRS to add some realism to precedings. For the most part we build our own missions, many of which have a carrier based element involved. We try to incorporate a mix of mission types and this includes helo operations which have been a big part of our ops since they were first introduced into DCS.

 

 

We have our long established –though currently in need of updating- web-site and our own squad-forums. The web-site is due for replacement with Facebook and Discord pages. Our squad has never ceased to operate in the time since being introduced in 2003 and we intend on being here for many more years –although perhaps with changes over time if these become necessary dependant upon the direction DCS heads with their modules etc.

If so, we fly every Sunday at 20:00 UK time whatever that translates to your time -can tell you that if you let us know where you are.

 

 

We have a mix of Europeans and North Americans (US and Canada) in flights usually and the NA people are flying in the middle or afternoon parts of the day if that helps at all.

The VAF is looking for a few pilots to join our ranks. We will be taking attitude before skills as skill can be taught. We are looking to add to our Squadron roster, the F/A-18C (VFA-136 Knighthawks, VFA 131 Wildcats) and the A10C (75th Tiger Sharks). The squadrons will be supporting each other in our missions that are fun but require a high level of cooperation.

 

We are looking for anyone that has a good attitude towards being cooperative and willing to take the time to go through some basic training. Comprehensive training will be available for those that want it. We're not looking for quantity; we are looking for quality individuals. We only consider a couple of candidates at a time in order to support their training and enrollment in the VAF. We like to take some time to access the candidates fit with the squadron and provide the basic training to become a VAF member. We plan to evaluate and potentially recruit on a quarterly basis however as mentioned we are not looking to just create numbers.

 

We focus on realistic training in our Student Undergraduate Pilot Training program which starts out with VFR, Pattern Work, Close Formation and then moves on to IFR, Formation Work, Refueling and Weapons Training. Progression through the blocks is at the students pace and flight status will be based on the ability to fly safe and to adhere to some basic operational standards. We fly primarily in Caucasus and Persian Gulf but also do some training and combined operations in NTTR.

 

We are a mature group of pilots so we're looking for individuals that fit into our current group and share similar attitudes and personalities. So if you if you feel like you are a mature person and have the patience to learn but also have a lot of fun and laughs with some great people, please go to our website and submit an application. We need some Harrier pilots! With the drop of the F16, vVMA-231 lost a bunch of pilots, so we have once again opened recruiting.

 

We are part of JTF-1 and train jointly with other F18, F14, and F16 squadrons under JTF. The 231 trains to real world standards, but maintains a casual and fun tempo.

 

We are based in the US, and consist of mostly veterans, aged 20-50. All pilots age 18+ are welcome, but you must be active with DCS and able to fly at least once every 2 weeks. If you are short on experience, no worries, we can train you if you are willing to put in the time.

 

Members are limited to flying the AV8 on mission and training nights, but any other time you are free to fly whatever you want on our JTF joint server. It's a great setup because there are always people to fly with, and every other week we run a large scale joint mission. We train Sunday and Tuesday nights at 1930 EST.

vVMFA-251 Thunderbolts, a JTF-1 Member Squadron

 

 

vVMFA-251 as a squadron, and our pilots, share a passion for aviation. Not just the combat aspect, but we value airmanship and aviation as a whole: being proficient at comms, land based/carrier procedures, formation, navigation, tanking, etc. We, and JTF-1 as a whole, strive to use real procedures as much as possible. We stress realistic approaches/departures, good comms, and our flights might be a little longer with less action but more flying.

 

When it comes to combat, we try to employ realistic loadouts, with appropriate tactics and teamwork, taking a “send more jets to the target” approach instead of “add more bombs to the jets”. As a virtual Marine squadron, we have a heavy focus on the Close Air Support mission. During 251 specific missions it is common to have a human FAC/FAC(A) directing attacks.

To go along with that, we have a training syllabus that teaches these things, our FRS2100/Basic course is 3 graded check-rides: Day, Night, and Bad weather. These are check-rides that you have to pass to become a full member, and would be given 60 days to complete. None of the stuff is hard, but it does require practice and familiarity (even if you're already good at the hornet in general). The syllabus goes past this into CASE I, II, III, and further into weapons and tactics as well.

 

This stuff is important to us: we're just as interested in aviation and flying in a professional and realistic manor, looking good and having fun while we do it, as we are in killing the target effectively in our amazing strike fighters.

 

As a JTF-1 Member squadron, we enjoy the benefit of having a large and diverse group of people to fly with in a busy airspace. There is never a shortage of content, missions, events, etc. JTF-1 offers a vast knowledge pool in it’s members. There are many pilots, current and former military, and many knowledgeable people in general. Many people who enjoy making missions here and dedicated servers to fly on 24/7.

 

Our official flight days are Sunday, Tuesday (Primary training night), and Thursday at 2000 Eastern with guys also available throughout the week for flying. We don’t have strict attendance requirements, but ask that people are able to show up on a regular basis at least to the Tuesday night flight time. In addition there are some other guidelines to joining vVMFA-251:

 

-18 yrs old+

-English speaking

-Be willing and eager to learn

• They must be able to follow instructions well and not argue with a flight lead.

 

• A good teamwork orientated mentality.

Sprachen Grundsätzlich deutsch (Englischkenntnisse von Vorteil)

Im Einsatz Nutzung von Brevity und/oder Bambini Codes

Muster Staffelmuster: F/A-18C und F-5E

Zusätzlich zur Unterstützung und nach Absprache auch A-10C, AV-8B und AJS37

Staffelmitglieder 10+

Training/Aktivität 2x pro Woche Training fix (Do und Sa), wovon mindestens eines regelmässig besucht werden soll freies Training jederzeit nach Absprache

Möglichst realitätsnahes Fliegen, wo möglich unter Nutzung von echten Dokumenten und Vorlagen

Struktur/Organisation Klare Struktur und Unterscheidung von Staffelpiloten und Jungpiloten, aber keine militärische Hierarchie (keine Ränge, kein "Sir", kein „Sie“, etc. ...)

Komplettes Ausbildungskonzept, inklusive Funk, AA und AG (CAS), etc.

Grundsatz: Real-Life geht vor - immer!

Aufnahme Jedermann und Frau ist gerne willkommen, mit uns auf unserem Server gemeinsam zu fliegen, um uns kennenzulernen.

Falls alles gegenseitig passt, erfolgt eine Aufnahme zum Jungpiloten, die Ausbildung und parallel dazu entsprechende Checkrides zur Qualifikation zum Staffelpiloten
