F18mech Posted January 26, 2022 Posted January 26, 2022 (edited) I notice this evening while flying on the boat for the first time and folding the wings. On top of the wingfold transmission there is a red barrel, 1.5 inch circumference and sticks up approx 1 inch. It is a visual aid used to signify to the troubleshooter or pilot that your wingfold tranmission is not down completely and locked. These are not on the computer sim aircraft...observations from a picky airframer whose can't fly...lol Edited January 26, 2022 by F18mech Update 1

Swift. Posted January 26, 2022 Posted January 26, 2022 These'll be awesome to have in the sim, does this also mean the associated damage modelling, for locking the wings before they are fully deployed, will be done? 476th Discord | 476th Website | Swift Youtube Ryzen 5800x, RTX 4070ti, 64GB, Quest 2

F18mech Posted January 26, 2022 Author Posted January 26, 2022 I was in 323 for about 6 weeks then got sent to 531 because they were getting ready to deploy WestPAC in the late 80s... I know 323 and 314 went on boats later but dont know when. I wasnt around when they did. Went to the east coast and got into the F18D two seater fighters...

F18mech Posted January 26, 2022 Author Posted January 26, 2022 I looked online but saw nothing clear. I'll look in old pubs or cruisebooks maybe...
Foka Posted January 26, 2022 Posted January 26, 2022 I heard about these "barrels" mentioned numerous of times by different pilots. Unfortunately, I never found photos or videos with them visible.
F18mech Posted January 27, 2022 Author Posted January 27, 2022 Found this in the Natops manual but still blank on the picture... still looking " 2.11 WING FOLD SYSTEM Each outer wing panel is folded upward to a vertical position by a wing fold mechanical/electrical drive. A wing fold unlock flag in the upper surface wing fold area provides a visual indication of the wing lock pins in the unlocked position. 1
