I notice this evening while flying on the boat for the first time and folding the wings. On top of the wingfold transmission there is a red barrel, 1.5 inch circumference and sticks up approx 1 inch. It is a visual aid used to signify to the troubleshooter or pilot that your wingfold tranmission is not down completely and locked.

These are not on the computer sim aircraft...observations from a picky airframer whose can't fly...lol

Good catch! From a Flight Deck Chief!

DO it or Don't, but don't cry about it. Real men don't cry!

No worries brother! I served on a Gator once upon a time as well as with some of your brothers and sisters in VMFA-323! One team, one fight!

I was in 323 for about 6 weeks then got sent to 531 because they were getting ready to deploy WestPAC in the late 80s... I know 323 and 314 went on boats later but dont know when. I wasnt around when they did. Went to the east coast and got into the F18D two seater fighters...

I heard about these "barrels" mentioned numerous of times by different pilots. Unfortunately, I never found photos or videos with them visible.

Found this in the Natops manual but still blank on the picture... still looking

" 2.11 WING FOLD SYSTEM Each outer wing panel is folded upward to a vertical position by a wing fold mechanical/electrical drive. A wing fold unlock flag in the upper surface wing fold area provides a visual indication of the wing lock pins in the unlocked position.
