I've been flying ED products since the old days of Su-17 and LOMAC.  I've been on the ride of great times and bad times with this software.

But I finally have had the last few weeks break me with frustration when it comes to DCS and VR.  It seems that now if you are in multiplayer and respawn, the framerate invariably, and with no real logic as to when, absolutely crashes creating vomit inducing motion and unplayability.  It sure feels like a memory leak.

Before this it was hours and hours of constantly tweaking with settings in NVIDIA, or in game graphics, or workarounds, or trying specific graphics drivers versions....and there still hasn't fundamentally been a change for the good towards true stability, improvements in framerates or reliability.

I have a pretty decent machine I just built not long ago - so I hate to say, I can't imagine the issues are me?  Sorry for the rant.  Anyone else seeing this latest apparent issue?

I just am beyond frustrated and will have to take a break from this program.  I was so excited for the AH-64D.  Off to Nebulous: Fleet Command until things get better 😞

It's been reported in several different threads, alt tab till the frametimes settle down again but this is generally a sticking plaster and doesn't stop it recurring. Staring up at open sky whilst alt tabbed seems to settle it quicker.

I find enabling HAGS helped to reduce the occurrences but have also experienced more crashes with it enabled. I think it's linked to a vram memory hole somewhere but not sure if it's steamvr or DCS; I always have all of my vram allocated by DCS but it never goes much above 8.1gb total used.

I suspect that the 3090/6900xt users won't experience it because they have gobfulls of vram spare (I think DCS allocates about 13gb if given enough to play with).

I had the same issue with my 3070 8GB, so similar limited VRAM.

I uninstalled all shader mods, set textures medium, terrain textures low. Cleared fxo and metashaders. Once shaders had recompiled i had no more respawn stutter. So i cant exactly say if it was the shader mods, the texture res or the shader recompile that finally fixed the issue.

My nvidia control panel settigns are default except for texture filtering: performance. Pre-rendered frames: 2

For some reason for the past few weeks my MetaShaders 2 folder has been empty.

Its lowercase metashaders2

If true then there may be some read/write issues. probably best to reinstall / repair. This could cause stutters

Hmm I will try a repair - not too keen on a reinstall.

Thanks,

Well did a full out repair using DCS Updater Utility and still nothing showing in metashaders2 folder. Man I sure don't want to have to do a clean install of all DCS.

My OpenBeta metashader2 (all lower case but who the F* cares about that winghunter) folder has a dozen of so files in it right now, the stable version only just one (both OB and stable are on the same version). But i've seen this folder being empty a few times already, files not deleted by me so i wouldn't worry about it. My DCS just runs fine with files in it or with the folder empty.
I used to delete them together with the fxo folder because it was mentioned here on the forum as THE solution to stutter and performance.
But for me it never made any difference at all and i stopped deleting them on updates quite some time ago.

Same here Lance_666, I stop doing that months ago. There’s gonna be micro stutters here and there not a big deal. If your rig is crashing it’s got to be your rig. There’s nothing wrong with DCS and VR not on my end for sure.

Possible page file ? When 2.7 came on a lot of people had crash issues. I changed my page files to Min 32768 Max 32768. Never had a crash issues since then. It broke my heart when the Tomcat was crashing on the 2nd mission start up. Changing the pagefile helped and I was happy E D found that nasty crash bug in Tomcat.

Well you left out alot of important info like what rez are you running and do you use more the 1.0 PD. what settings do you have in DCS. I have a 1070GTX anbd use 20% Rez in SteamVR and lowest settings and I can maintain motion vector 45fps with my setup.. if you are getting Crashes it could be an unstable OC and such.

Your PC and others may be stable with other games but DCS is not tother games and I seen the slighest unstable system CTD and such in DCS at the slightest hint of trouble.. and when I mean unstable that usually means either too high an OC or your CPU voltage needs a slight bump..

Did you attqach your DCS Logs here maybe they have an indication as to what is causing your issues..
