HDU lines and numbers distorted in VR when looking up when mixing with blades

In VR, if I look up with the HDU on so that the rotor blades movement are seen, then all the numbers and lines on the HDU display become distorted and sort of swirly.

This is very similar to the issue we had some time ago with the propeller in the Spitfire. 

This only happens when Vive Motion Compensation (Vive's equivalent to Motion Smoothing in SteamVR) is switched on. It's OK with it off.

As you say, it appears to be linked to SteamVR’s motion smoothing or equivalent functions in other software. The same thing has always caused problems for me in the warbirds where the propeller would cause tearing on the projected gunsight which would vary depending on power settings. I just leave it off now. It’s actually made things much smoother all round.

Yep, as I said above, it's the same as what happened with propellers in some Warbirds, particularly Spitfire, but the thing is, that issue was resolved by ED, so I see no reason why this shouldn't.

Turn it off?  No thanks, as the ghosting looking to the sides of fast moving jets with it off is too much to bear!

These artefacts also happen in openxr with MR turned on but since openxr is not officially supported in DCS I won't hold my breath :).

Im not seeing it in my reverb G2 seems normal for me, will ask others to check

Do you have a Reverb G2 or WMR headset?   If you're running through SteamVR, you can test if that's the problem by going to the WMR for SteamVR settings in the SVR dashboard and selecting "Disable" for Default Motion Reprojection.  I've not found the SteamVR per-app settings to be reliable for DCS

you can also do the settings from your desktop (from Thud's VR4DCS blog):

  • (X):\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\MixedRealityVRDriver\bin\win64\OpenVRSettingsUX.exe

This is not a problem from DCS but from the interpolation methods of VR devices, it happen on Oculus HMD with ASW enabled too

Its a case of motion reprojection, turn in off and will b fine ;).

I get the same issue using the OpenXR mod and WMR, it does seem linked to Motion Reprojection (or at I guess an equivalent technology)  in VR as without it I don't get the distortions.

How practical flying without MR is an exercise for the individual, I find that flying without it introduces another series of artefacts when looking out the side in particular whilst in flight (stuttering or juddering even the the framerate is well above 60) ..

Yep, flying without it is horrible with all the stuttering and ghosting when looking to the side. Glad to see it’s happening on G2 and other headsets and not just my VP2. So, hopefully, BN can report this.

you need to get BN to turn on MR/MS, he typically runs with it disabled, which having tried i know i can't
