Peyoteros Posted December 28, 2008 Posted December 28, 2008 Damn it, I love this heli and I love this sim, love everything about it. I fly it all day long and cry when I have to go to sleep because I really like to fly it. I like it because it's difficult to fly, difficult to operate, so every victory, especially A2A brings tons of satisfaction. I lived through so many difficult situations and made it home for supper. It's a beautiful heli to fly, as the challenge is everything. I'm falling asleep every time while in cruise mode, because engines sing so beautifully, and yet she brings me home almost every time I get in trouble. Yes there are some bits and bobs missing, but then that is exactly what makes it challenging, and every successful mission brings a lot of pleasure. And now I must stop, can't waist any more of her time. I'll see you around! :pilotfly: 1 "Eagle Dynamics" - simulating human madness since 1991 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] ۞ ۞

Eltra Posted December 28, 2008 Posted December 28, 2008 (edited) Yeah, after playing the sim for one hour ore more with my new TrackIR Pro 4, its like heaven because of the realism and challenge this awesome piece of software brings to us. Yesterday I spent nearly full 8 hours in the bird and today it will be the same (I hope:pilotfly:). I bought a new 1920*1200 TFT (Samsung, only 279,- Euro in Germany) and with my 260GTX and the E8500 Core2D (3.1 GHz) it runs at about 30-40 fps with medium details (4X FSAA and 16 AIF, XP SP3) in Single Player Missions -> AWESOME! In this high resolution fully zoomed out, I can see any detail of the cockpit in a crystal clear shape. It feels like the devs designed the cockpit for these ultra high resolutions, even though these kind of TFT´s weren´t affordable nor available in 2007 when most of the grapics of BS must have been developed ( I suppose so). What I think needs to be mentioned, is the astonishing stability of the code! I never ever had one crash, bluescreen, rtd (return to desktop) or any other glitches. Of course there are things to be pushed further (editors, multiplayer performance (warping of other players, very low fps sometimes in mp etc.)) but the devs will fix that, as they did in FC in the past. Remember folks, this is the first "public" version of the code and its so stable. ED must really have tested a lot and this explains the looooong delay before putting it on the market. It was worth it! See you on the BF... Eltra Edited December 28, 2008 by Eltra
Jack57 Posted December 28, 2008 Posted December 28, 2008 Yes you make an important observation there Eltra - even though we had to wait longer for this than we wanted to, the reward is a very stable application. -Nighthawk- Posted December 28, 2008 Posted December 28, 2008 It's a great game, these days I'm hard to impress with the quality of something, there is always something else to benchmark against. When I got DCS the other day I've never been so impressed with a simulator, it took my about 3 hours just to learn the startup procedure (encountering some problems with the cut-off valve etc. ;) ) instead of just pressing "I" or something similar in another game there was about 40 commands to click. So far I've learnt the basic flight systems, the navigation systems (from LOMAC) and now I've moved onto Combat which I'm about half way through. It will take months to learn but that's the whole fun of it :)
S3PukkU Posted December 28, 2008 Posted December 28, 2008 I second that opinion. Black Shark rulez! It's the best game I've played since F-19 Stealth Fighter :D I've spent way too much time playing that one. Can't wait to see what everyone's bragging about! Last night, I was trying to set up a flight in FSX. After two hours of dealing with corrupt textures and other ineffeciencies with FSX, it's wonderful to hear that BS is a stable program. That is great news! Edited December 28, 2008 by NismoRR
Dusty Rhodes Posted December 28, 2008 Posted December 28, 2008 I wasn't hot on flying a Russkie bird. But I tell you now that I love the thing. The FM is challenging and feels so realistic for someone who has never actually flown a helicopter. It has the challenges that I have heard Helo pilots talk about. I love the ME and hope some more dynamics can be put into it. The closer we get to a Falcon 4 style (updated of course), real time campaign, the happier I will be, but with what the ME offers, I love creating missions and can't wait to cobble together my first campaign. It has the challenges that I have heard Helo pilots talk about. Not everything ;) LTE is obviously not implemented (only weather cocking of course) Well as much as a coaxial Heli is cool, I would love a heli with a tail rotor with this sim. Fighting a heli while the tail rotor is losing control effectiveness due to the wind being in the azimuth of tip vortice's or tail rotor VRS is the biggest challenge you can have while in a hover in a heli. And it will sure get you dancing on those torque pedals :fear: It's something Fixed wing pilot's can't even imagine. Edited December 28, 2008 by Vortex

aledmb Posted December 28, 2008 Posted December 28, 2008 yeah, i think only rFactor can deal with DCS. i don't know which one to choose... the best thing in it? the ammount of systems to learn and the time it takes. 1
Airway Posted December 28, 2008 Posted December 28, 2008 I did wait a long time for this kind of simulation and too early gave Longbow 2 away as I thought it won't work with XP. Found out too late that there is a workaround. Then, when I got notice about the Black Shark project some while ago, I searched every information about it and kept tracking it. I liked it very much that the developers and testing team kept with us and gave us lots of information about the standing of the project, videos, the manual earlier and so on. I too was so happy that finally someone helped me to get this simulation before the official box release comes out, and now I can spend some time in my holidays to work with the sim. 'really like the product, no big issues so far and I am impressed about the complexity of the helicopter and it's systems. Too use it correct and get best results out of it I still need to learn a lot the next time. Thank you to everybody who worked and still works on Black Shark and the DCS series! You have done great work

Chillspider Posted December 28, 2008 Posted December 28, 2008 I turned alot of people on to this sim and at first they all said same thing "Its russian" and i kept saying what does that matter and this thing is the greates chopper sim ever and its what i have been looking and waiting for , for years. I can say that too often do i look at the clock and go crap its 4:30 am i need to go to bed and it seemed like it was just 11 oclock . Multiplaye is alot of fun especially when you get guys who know how use data link and switch frequencies so other people arent on the same channel messing things up. It was totaly worth the money and i will be buying the DvD as well and the Book that will come out around the same time . I understand most of your post, but not that part. Based on how DCS:BS simulates things like Vortex Ring State, I think the dev team will do better than anyone else in PC-sim history has done for LTE for modeled helicopters that have tail rotors - other than perhaps Dodosim for FSX, but they're working against severe limitations in FSX's flight model. Shrubbo Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 Hehe you can actually get the exact same effect as LTE even tho you don't have one. Knock a couple of feet off the top or bottom rotor set and watch as you attempt to push one of your rudder pedals threw the wall. I clipped a building and went into a spin, had the fight of my life and survived (Not much left of the shark tho). I sat here for a second and then thought "coooooool" Vortex I have something that may give you what you search for. I too love to dance. Open the editor, create a mission, put your chopper in ready for take off and run up on the strip. Put turbulence to max, put in an idiotic cross wind that would ground a real shark (Not the cross wind, just the wind speed, cross wind becomes obvious next) Now try and hover just off the deck and keep it aligned with the strip. Prepare to dance, it is great fun :) i9-9900K,Z390 Aorus Master, 32GB GSkill Trident F4-3600 DDR4, ROG Strix RTX 2080 Ti, Oculus Rift S. Thrustmaster Warthog T&S, TPR Pedals.

Dave B. When I said "obviously LTE is not implemented" I wasn't complaining about it not being implemented for the KA50 ;) What I meant is I wish we had a heli with a tail rotor as it's a big reason helicopters are so damn hard to fly. Fly one on a day with no wind and you are a god, you can pirouette around the nose, center and tail as you taxi perfectly, even around intersection corners. But add a 10-20 knot gusty wind and these smick maneuvers increase in difficulty 100X. The real consequence of course is that your margins become smaller and limits need to be managed. Shrubbo I will try that later! Edited December 29, 2008 by Vortex

Aser Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 Ok Vortex, tell me you are flying a 206... :smilewink: LTE is just an excuse for tail rotor too small, with 10-30knots I'm more than happy in the 412 or 139. It's true that you need to keep an eye on the tq when using pedals but that's all. Another thing is when you get yourself turning around in a 206 without using all the power and your foot is on the floor, that is just a bad tail rotor design. LTE is a myth. Regards Aser When I said "obviously LTE is not implemented" I wasn't complaining about it not being implemented for the KA50 ;) What I meant is I wish we had a heli with a tail rotor as it's a big reason helicopters are so damn hard to fly. Airway Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 Another post from me: I have a blast with this sim - still am amazed of new things to explore. Just made a user defined mission, added text to it, that will be shown when someone runs this mission, same like in the training missions. And I added a sound file to it that I have set up to run when the mission starts. And I also tried out the internal function to record the track as an Avi-file. Still have to test this function, but it's great to have it  I am amazed :joystick:
