Decided to practice some BVR tonight. 

 

VS a hornet, head on at 25k... My radar wouldn't pick him up until around 25 miles.

WTF.

 

And yes, radar was looking at the correct elevation, etc. I had him on datalink, so I knew where he was and where to center the radar.

 

25 miles?

Maybe F/A-18 was doing defensive maneuvers or something, that's why your radar couldn't pick it up. Please attach the track file here, or at least a tacview.

Around 3:06. It was actually another 16, and his radar got me around the same time.

Are u Shiny? At 3:06 is was only Shiny vs  some Mig-29S. And you both shot cca 24nm away from each other.
