It´s been a while since i´ve seen an actual deck but i remember the holdbacks to be color coded (grey for E2, yellow for the F18C/D, etc.).

When using the SC, i only see Holdbacks the same color being installed during launch, no matter which aircraft. Have things changed the past years and i just didn´t keep up, or is this being worked on for future updates ?

When in doubt - climb. Nobody ever collided with air.

Cockpit: Win11Pro on M2.SSD, 128GB DDR5, Ryzen9-7950X3D, RTX4090, AsusROGStrix B650A. WinWing HOTAS MetalWarthog Orion2, MFG Rudder, TrackIR5

I was thinking this the other day after watching a YouTube video covering the mechanics of the holdback bar.

Yellow for Charlies, orange for Rhinos, gray for Hawkeyes, blue for Goshawks.

I'm curious what the colors were for older aircraft like the Tomcat, Intruder, Prowler, etc.

The holdback bar for the E-2/C-2 is a longer, slimmer bar also. It wasn't really gray but more unpainted metal like. If I recall, the E-2 bar was similar to the S-3 only, the S-3 bar required a small, thick plastic piece to be inserted into it prior to hook up. Prowler bar was similar to all of the aforementioned.

DO it or Don't, but don't cry about it. Real men don't cry!

Small push here since i´m unable to find any official answer from the devs.

Any updates ?

I worked below the waterline on things that weren't carriers, but I do know back in my day they used dog bones (because I asked); metal connectors machined to break at a certain tension.  Pretty sure the reusable holdbacks came after I got out.  Go much farther into the past and you're into bridles, and the hold back was aft of the aircraft.  Look at the nosewheel of an [A,F]-4 and tell me that's not going to come off if you launch the aircraft with it...

Which brings up the whole box of ramen with the F-4 naval variant coming down the pipe.  I'm assuming the A-4 just magically gets a holdback and everyone tries not to look.  I've never sent one off the pointy end; maybe I should just to see how they manage it.  The last bridle catcher came off in 2012 or thereabouts according to my search engine, and most of the newer SCs never had one.  The French just toss theirs into the ocean anymore.

As for the OP question, I'm not entirely convinced that's on the list.  There is such a thing as too much time spent in the weeds.  You get that technical and they're going to call away sweepers just as you think it's time to hit the rack...

It appears the holdback bars do have the right colors now when deck crew carries them to your aircraft - that´s neat !

As soon as the bar is installed, its color changes back to orange 🙂 - maybe a small tweak suggestion for future updates
