I flew yesterday the F-14 abd i can say, i did not recognize this thing in the cockpit, this may be the new button update

Yup, there was a GIF around somewhere showing the various new look-options, basically, it's just a dynamic update to the cockpit graphics as I understand it. It seems that IRL those buttons would come loose after a while and squadrons created various techniques to make sure those buttons didn't rattle around and fall in the lap of the pilot at some inconvenient time (which I would think, is ANY time! 🙂 ).

I'm not updating this anymore. It's safe to assume I have all the stuff, and the stuff for the stuff too. 🙂

It is Safety Wire.  Common aviation maintenance requirement used industry wide (both civilian and military to prevent bolts from vibrating lose and backing out creating failures or damage.

I've seen the wire and also the metal plate in the ACM panel ... personally don't like it, looks like some patches old machine.

Also my mirrors are showing artifacts.

@IronMike, is there a way to disable these "dynamic cockpit (FORGE) elements" ?

Thank you.

Are you using any cockpit mod, re: mirrors? If not, please show a screenshot. If yes, cockpit mods seem to be currently conflicting with the mirrors. It would be up to the mod-creator to update them accordingly. Also, is this in MT or ST, please?

Forge elements cannot be disabled. That's how it looked and what was used in the real aircraft. Later, once we are done with Forge, you will be able to "put together your own jet" just as you like it best.

Well that’s above and beyond anything I expected from “dynamic cockpit elements.”

We'll talk more about this in the update we will publish soon, to not spill all beans ahead, but once done, it will be pretty sweet imho. 🙂

Thank you @IronMike.

Sure, although I very much praise realism, I also appreciate a lot the Tomcat's cockpit original architecture - it's big part of the "eye candy" factor for me.

Very good to know about it, I'll be waiting for the "put together your own jet" feature.

Best regards.

edit

Now that you mention it - not for the mirrors, but I do have a sharpness mod for better reading the cockpit labels ...

Artifacts on the mirrors as images below.

Regarding the bold :

- it really was the cockpit labels sharpness mod i had installed - removed it and the mirrors are alright now;

- it was with the last open beta with MT.

Check in the bug section @DSplayer posted a fix, if you want to keep using the mod. 🙂

No, thank you guys for the obvious love and respect you have for the Tomcat that you take the time to model it as it truly was. Safety wired loose pushbuttons and all.

You Prolly knew my Father, who was in VF-101 from 1988 to 1995, he was an AE1, worked on Tomcats before retiring after 20 yrs.

Still got my VF-101 T-Shirt from the early 90s...

That’s certainly possible. Too bad the shore squadrons didn’t create yearbooks the way that the boats made cruise books. Memories fade. I spent the first half of my time in VF-101 in Troubleshooters and the second half in QA.

Does the untouched ACM panel ever show up again in the rotation?  Not complaining, but it seems like there must be at least some F-14's that don't have the first level maintenance stuff, especially if the whole ACM panel was removed and sent into the second stage maintenance and put back into service.  FWIW, so far all I've seen is the safety wire and the tape.  Neither the plate version nor the unmodified version has shown up.

The tape is the sad one, because you know that crap is making it like 3 days before falling off.

The plate is damn genius. Would love to know which squadrons came up with which solutions.

For the specific wire solution we have in-game, that jet was a VF-33 jet in '91. For the plate, at least 1 jet in VF-11 had it, I don't know if it was adopted by more squadrons, however.
