Is AGM-65 boresighting borked in MT preview 2.8.3.37556?

In the current multi threading preview version I can't seem to get a reliable handoff from TGP to the Mavs (D or H), despite having boresighted them.

Process I follow for boresighting:

  1. Cold start as normal, then takeoff
  2. In air, go A-G and energize Mavs and TGP, then wait for them to be RDY
  3. Set TGP to AUTO and Mav WPN to PRE
  4. Set master ARM to SIM
  5. With TGP; find some high contrast target some 8+ nm out
  6. Acquire hight contrast target
  7. On Mav WPN format; align Mav crosshair with TGP target and lock. When crosshair collapses, press BSGT (and ensure it gets inverted on WPN format page)
  8. Select other Mav station and repeat items 6 and 7

With this done I move on with mission. But after fence in, a TGP target lock almost never get successfully handed off to MAV. I have tested this with both H and D versions with same result

Has the process changed or is this just bugged in this version?

works for me. a reminder: if you boresight your mavs at 9nm (you can compare that to zeroing a gun to a certain range), your mav crosshair and tgp crosshair will perfectly match at 9nm.

now since the pod is offset horizontally (due to its position on the aircraft in relation to the position of the maverick), at a distance of 4nm to your target, your mav will be offset to the left (remember, you boresighted to 9nm). at a distance of lets say 15nm, your mav will be offset to the right as this is past the point of your boresight.

maybe you heard of setting a convergence distance for wing mounted guns in WW2 aircraft. same principle applies. at close range your bullets wont get to the center of the crosshair, at long range your left wing guns will shoot too far to the right. only at the specified distance they will meet the desired impact point.

reliable auto handoff with mav D was achieved at around 4-6nm to the target.

Maverick boresighting has been bugged for a while now...🤔

mav_auto_bsgt.trk no issues on latest OB. keep in mind, auto handoff might not be the most accurate, as you can see in the track, the first mav constantly tries to lock up another tank close to the tpod spi, not the exact one due to proximity. and at 8nm it's damn near max range. as i get closer, the missile has less of an issue locking the exact target my pod is looking at.

and to bsgt them initially, you obviously have to slew the mav manually to the correct place as initially entering point track with non-boresighted mavs results in break-lock on the mav page

keep in mind, bsgt at 4nm will look off when the target is at 8nm or vice versa

Yeah, same problem, in auto-handoff mav often locks on wrong target or just some random building in 100m distance instead of target or not locks at all, no matter distance (tried from 8 nm to 4 nm), even after bsgt in the air.

TMS down between steps 7 and 8. You're not supposed to have to do that, but you do anyways.

Some more experimenting with this. My problem was, I believe, not that I couldn't boresight but that I often failed to get teh Mavs to make the lock. That seems to have been me not ensuring all Mavs where in the zoomed-in state. Once I make sure a Mav is zoomed in properly it seems to accept a handoff (mostly) and lock successfully.

I may be wrong but I doubt that the boresight procedure / necessety doesn't differ from gun convergence. Once you have boresighted the Maverick the system knows the offset. With this error defined the Maverick's head knows how many degrees it must "azimuth travel" for each degree of the TGP. In ß I don't have any problems with auto handoff in neither ranges, yes. with boresighting zoomed-in Mavericks. In stable release you can simply forget about the Mavericks.

of course its not the same. but to visualize the offset in mounting position on the jet and therefore explain the parallax it creates, it might help

Yss it has changed a bit it seems. You have to find a target around 4-6 miles in distance for it to work accurate. Also you can try from one end of runway to the other (yet to try this)

i tried air aligning at 6 miles it it works like a charm. I need to try ground aligning but a further distance. I do know that close distance on ground does not work any more like it used to for me.

you forgot to turn on "GND Jettison" as you were still standing on the ground.

Thanks, ill give it a go!

It worked. Thankyou very much!

Hm, ive recently tried mavericks again, and at ~5-10 miles or so the handoff was very accurate, didnt even need boresighting despite closely packed soviet tanks (target practice). Or are they auto-boresighted when you start in flight?

Yeah they are boresighted when you have an air-spawn

Ground boresighting doesnt work for me. Air boresighting from 4-6 miles out works best. I miss ground realigning

Need to enable ground jettison plus master arm sim or armed on ground
