Check out SimHQ, there is a first look article. There has also been some info on the new thrustmaster joystick.

I've been following the progress of DCS: A-10 since I purchased DCS:BS about eight months ago. What little we've seen so far seems to indicate that this will be a sim by which all others will be judged. The level of fidelity and attention to detail is like nothing I've seen so far. The SimHQ article left much to be desired, but there's clearly a method to the madness as Eagle Dynamics hasn't let me down yet.

My question (which borders on trolling, but there's little else to discuss at the moment) is whether or not anyone has any idea what the specs are on the computers being used to demonstrate the current build? I will most certainly be upgrading for this sim (and probably buying the new Warthog HOTAS) and was wondering if I should sell one of my kidneys or just keep saving my pennies. I'm anticipating purchasing something close to what wags has but if I can save a few bucks by getting something that's not quite on the bleeding edge that would be great too.

Any input is appreciated.

As its running a tweaked and improved version of the DCS engine, I would expect it to run on any machine that currently runs DCS with acceptable frame rates. Of course, ED's plan of iteratively upgrading the engine means that we will get extra features / eye candy with each module, therefore your mileage will vary depending on how your rig currently handles DCS: BS. If you are currently right on the edge.......you will have to turn something off.

Dual core / 2 GB RAM and a decent, (preferably, not onboard), GFX card.

Mostly CPU dependant assuming decent (past 2 years – 512mb) GFX card.

(my best guess BTW ;))

ps. As this was a trade show, there would have been a kick arse PC under that pit. The last thing you would want the gaming press to see would be frame rate issues, etc.

Chris, my recommendation would be to save your pennies until the product is released, then collect notes from people running it on various setups and purchase your new machine based on that feedback. Basing purchasing decisions months in andvance on machines used to demonstrate a work-in-progress is not a good idea - you'll end up spending more than you need to.

Excellent advice. I had hoped on having a stellar system from the get-go, but having some hands on feedback from consumers is probably the best way to go.

I'll keep my kidney off ebay for the time being.

Agreed. You don't know the thrill of adrenaline until you sneak into a TZ, keeping the search radars abeam, while you try to get close enough to trick them into firing some rounds or even a missile up into the sky so you can spoof their fire and then roll the Hog onto the now-revealed target area...

The needle-nose jockeys haven't had that good a time since WWII. :P

You can call me Suzan if you like but first of all give me afterburnered jet aircraft in DCS.

*NOTE: It has come to our attention that the plan is for DCS: A-10C to be released in downloadable form by the end of the year. Sorry for the confusion!

Here's hoping that in the future we can have both! :)

Wait until you fly DCS: A-10C Warthog and inadvertently end up in the MEZ of a tracked SAM launcher... when you do, you'll bleed all your energy in your first defensive break turn, and then you'll be wishing for a quick way to get the hell out of Dodge as he continues to launch missile after missile at you!

Does anybody know when Patch 5 will be released? To the developers why can't you make it simple on joystick commands to switch weapons (either guns and missles and bombs or both) I have to go to the MSFD panel and hit all kinds of buttons to fire a missle. I use to have Lock On years ago and it was very simple to either go missles or guns or both.

Thank You

Just look at Lock On and the overhauled LOFC as the "cheat" game-mode as compared to DCS A10 "simulator mode" and you'll have what your statement suggests that you want.

Ie....DCS might not be for you if that's what you are asking for. No shame in it. DCS is challenging! But the intent is realism. Can't have it both ways.

Because that's how it works in the real aicraft.

You don't need to do anything on the MFCD though.

Set HUD to SOI, and DMS left/right will select weapons.

I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
