With the Sinai map out and looking great, and the MiG-21 being a natural fit for Six Day War/October War re-enactments, I'd love to see RSBN beacons added, as was done with Syria.

Yep, having RSBNs would definitely be nice, as well as some instant action missions which are already lacking in some other maps, but Sinai is a rightful place for the -21.

Best would be if it could use the ED RSBN beacon API, i think they got one now?

But thats probably more of a long term goal, maybe with the Mig-21 rework.

This.

And yes, ED RSBN are included in DCS from the first KA-50 iteration as far as I known.

Is there a plan to switch to ED RSBN? The MiG RSBN is not that great.. Not only that it doesn't work as it should, but you cannot add stations because it breaks IC. :s

Not that I dislike the idea, but wouldn't that mean that the only RSBN stations we'd ever have are the four (?) military Russian airbases on Caucasus?

We got RSBN even on Normandy now (don't know why).

"The RSBN system is factory installed on a car semi-trailer and is adapted to operate in field conditions, so it does not need to have a special foundation, however, there are hardened stands for similar devices at airports where they are simply intended for permanent operation."

We've recently tested RSBN stations for Sinai, hopefully we'll get them pushed in the next update.

Not all NDB station were added though.

Indeed, there are pros and cons to both methods.. the ideal situation would be where you have all stations in one place (ED RSBN) rather than having them on a per plane basis and you can add stations as desired without breaking IC.. or even a ground unit like the TACAN one would do.. but again, that would be useless at the moment to the MiG-21 as it has its own system.

Hi,

Here is a User Mod that I've been using to employ the LUA files that you shared earlier, with the fixes suggested by @LCO489, I added also the Kneeboard information and its in OvGME format:

MiG-21 - RSBN for Sinai Map (by Hiromachi & LCO489).zip

The kneeboard pages added are:

If you believe them to be useful, feel free to employ them in any way you like. Best regards,

I have another thread on this topic, and what I find absolutely absurd is we have no way of doing anything about this problem of maps not having RSBN and ARK available without breaking integrity check. Add on the fact that as more maps release, that's more maps that don't have these navigational tools. So yeah, a mod can be used to add these navigational aids, but by doing so you're restricting yourself from playing the majority of public servers. At this point I don't give a rat's behind who's responsible or who can do what, just give us something for crying out loud that doesn't resort to the player-base having to make a temporary fix that keeps us from playing 2/3 of servers.

That's why rather than merely complain, I pinged one of M3 developer's, just in case he finds my artwork good enough to include on a quick update of the MiG-21. I'm using this fix successfully on my Single Player missions, as I also don't give a rat's behind for Multiplayer's use  🙂

So, we're now into 2025, a full 18mo since I posted this. We're now up to 5 maps without RSBN/ARK for our beloved MiG-21.

Given that MiG-21's actually operated in all four of those maps historically (Sinai, Kola, Iraq, Afghanistan), it keeps me from wanting to invest in them if I can't fly my favourite module without needing to resort to F10 to navigate.

Doesn't seem like Mag 3 is interested in doing this work, but maybe a nudge from ED would help, given that it'd be one less barrier to buying their maps?

And one less barrier for me to buy the Mig21!
