F-15E SEAD Tactics

I think you should just fly low and pop up at the last moment, then drop your bombs (on the search radar).

The sa 2 is easy to fight as it's minimum engagement range is pretty large if I remember correctly and it doesn't track if you're low.

What is everyone doing for taking out enemy SAMs like the SA2 with the current weapons available on the F15E?

I flew a single player Liberation mission today to take out an SA-10. I covered my flight with a SEAD flight of F/A-18s armed with TALDs. Other than that, I flew at about 100 ft, at about 6 miles popped up to about 5,000 ft AGL, and dropped CBU-97s (87s would have worked too) in CDIP. Took out the majority of the site.

Optically cued systems (most IR SAMs and non-radar AAA) can't see you at night. So fly at night whenever possible. In DCS, anti-collision lights and strong nav lights will make you visible to AI at night. Formation lights and weak nav lights are ok. Popping flares will also make you visible to AI. Afterburner usage is ok.

Most SHORAD can easily be outranged by lofting bombs.

The slow reacting radar SAMs like SA-2/3/5/6/8 can be defeated by lofting LGBs (including the rather lenghty designation phase). The double-digit SAMs like SA-10/11/15/19 react too fast to keep designating for LGBs. Once some issues with AUTO releases are solved (bombs landing long, pattern not centered on target designation, faulty wind correction of ASL), lofting dumb bombs/CBUs with imediate break-off will offer some limited options against these systems.

I'm lofting 15 MK 82 against SA 10 site, from 200' CCRP, with some success.

SA 10 complex. 15 Mk 82.

Approach at low level. Radar detects but dosn't launch.

Direct Pop Up, roll over and self designate for a CCRP Dive Toss.

Egress at low level.

If anyone is interested how it was done in real life, the video below gives an interesting inside look at these things. Of course, the mission at hand was not of a very heavily defended airspace, they made the attack at medium altitude, etc. But the interesting part is that F-15Es work along HARM capable aircraft, like F-16s. What they do in the end is working in coordinate fashion, with the F-16s doing the SEAD part, and in the window between a HARM launch and impact, the Mudhens go in and bomb the site, doing the DEAD part of it.

This should not be surprising, since the F-15E cannot carry HARM's or similar.
SEAD missions are usually reserved for others.

In the meantime, use what we've got.

The SA 10 Tracker radar is the target. SA 11 provides support, plus numerous short range AA.

12 mk 82 air.

Oh, I know, I was just giving you props.

Do you have to use manual mode in A/G Delivery to be able to set loft at 30 degrees?

null

I have a good Ballute technique going.  These were my results with a single run in with 2 bombs.  I use Auto release, and pop up at .800 mach, and 0.8 nm, to 250 ft AGL and the release advance is -375ft AT.  I destroyed a SA-2 Track Radar, and an SA15.

@Iceman555

I use CCRP for Toss bombing.

.95 mach. Pull up at 5 nm at 2.5 g for auto release. For clusters a little bit less distance.

For the SA 10 site, target the Track Radar. This will disable the site. I usually protect it with short range sams.

For retarded low level, I do more or less the same as you, except maybe a bit lower.

I made a lot of similar missions and vids for the Harrier 4 years ago.I'm just repeating them with the F-15.

https://forum.dcs.world/topic/198790-dcs-av-8b-harrier-ccrp-dive-toss/

High speed low level. Great fun.

Hi@all,

I'm currently reading the following PDF (because I'm still undecided whether I should treat myself to the F-15E or not, but I'm sooo close to it... 🙂 And it doesn't bother me that it's called the Frankenjet.😞 FAQ_ver_3_-_1_Apr_2023 And here is the following about SEAD:
"Q: Can the SE carry HARM?
A: HELL No!! SEAD was and is not a USAF F-15E mission. Some Export only models can carry the HARM. But not USAF F-15Es."
And I think I heard in some youtube video that it was also the case in RLF that the F-16Cs were sent in first. Only when it was reasonably safe did the F-15Es come.

Yep. F-16s do the SEAD part (Supression), F-15Es do the DEAD part (destruction). Team work to ensure the SAM site never returns to active duty again.

The ease of entering information into the avionics,  by use of the UFC and MPD pushbuttons is a delight.

SEAD/DEAD, who needs a rocket, who cares?

Harrier or Eagle, both are capable of dealing with SAM in DCS.

Slice away as SA 11 site launches a missile.
